Position Summary
This position will research best practice processes, ensuring continuous
alignment of Bethany policy and compliance with national, provincial standards,
policy and guidelines. The Quality Practice Leader monitors and evaluates
opportunities to improve care quality and enhance safety across sites and
establishes relationships and communities of practice that support Bethany’s
Mission and Values. The incumbent will maximize benefits achieved from
Bethany’s Integrated Quality Management System to ensure and support best
practice processes are implemented and quality and safety risks are monitored
and addressed through continuous quality improvement as evidenced by resident,
family and staff experiences.
Key Responsibilities
1. Service Excellence: Accountable for data quality assurance, quality
improvement and evaluation
Performance Measures include:
- Lead the development, monitoring, and continuous quality improvement of
Bethany’s IP&C program.
- Ensure Bethany’s policies and processes align with current evidence-informed
best practices, including national/provincial standards and regional policy.
- Support care sites and organizational leaders with regular monitoring and
reporting of IP&C risks and program performance.
- Provide consultative expertise in infection prevention and control to all
members of the care team, including residents, families, employees, and
volunteers.
- Guide best practice processes in identifying and prioritizing IP&C equipment
and supplies.
- Support the identification, development, and delivery of IP&C educational
resources.
- Establish effective collaborative relationships with regional, provincial,
and national IP&C stakeholders.
- Participate as a member of Bethany’s Infection Control Committee and other
relevant committees.
- Collaborate with site quality teams and organizational leaders to integrate
IP&C priorities into Bethany’s continuous quality improvement culture.
2. Leadership: The Quality Practice Leader is responsible for supporting the
site leadership team and organizational quality teams and related committees
Performance Measures include:
- The Quality Practice Leader will support site teams through membership on a
collaborative inter-disciplinary site quality team with information sharing
and knowledge transfer relevant to quality and safety priorities.
- Represents Bethany at appropriate quality and safety related clinical
practice, education and research committees both regionally and
provincially.
- Collaborates in project development and implementation with other Quality
Practice Leaders.
3. Team Work: Cares for and works cooperatively with others as an effective
team member.
Performance Measures include:
- Works with the sites and organizational leaders to ensure coordination of
quality and safety priorities with organizational direction and key project
implementation
- Works with the Quality, Safety and Clinical Education Team and the Site Team
Leads to support practice change i so staff understand the why (benefit) and
how (process) concerning process change
- Works collaboratively with inter-disciplinary team members (via forums such
as Care Service Manager Committee) to support building quality improvement
capacity.
4. Pro-active Learner: Demonstrates the vision and values of Bethany and lives
out the mission of Creating Caring Communities.
Performance Measures include:
- Understands, follows and applies all Bethany Standards of Conduct.
- Attends and actively participates in education opportunities, health and
safety training and safe equipment operation training as required.
- Collaborates, communicates and shares knowledge and learning experiences with
co-workers.
- Demonstrates commitment to learning new skills, and actively participates in
workplace projects.
- Safety: Contributes to a safe environment for residents, the team and self
by understanding and adhering to safety guidelines and practices at all times.
Performance Measures include:
- Identifies and mitigates unsafe conditions in the work environment, including
immediate reporting of any unsafe conditions.
- Strong knowledge of body mechanics and proper lifting techniques.
- Utilizes the reporting process for Employee Injury and Hazardous conditions
and resident unusual occurrences.
- Participates in fire drills and understands fire, WHMIS, MSIP and general
safety procedures.
Qualifications
Education & Professional Designation
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Current Registered Nurse in good standing with CARNA.
Experience
- Minimum of three to five years of recent professional experience preferably
in the continuing care sector
- Demonstrated experience in infection prevention and control, including
surveillance, education, and consultation.
- Strong knowledge of infectious disease processes, applicable regulatory
bodies, and legislative requirements.
Additional skills
- Current, valid Alberta Driver’s License with no restrictions (travel to sites
required).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates complex project management abilities including change management
and system level evaluation
- Demonstrates leadership ability and highly developed interpersonal
communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrates excellent organizational skills and has the ability to perform
accurate, detailed work
- Ability to utilize analytical and conceptual thinking in the identification
and resolution of issues
- Demonstrates commitment to resident focused services and teamwork
- Demonstrates well developed computer skills
- Demonstrates knowledge of business concepts (organization structure and
design, business processes, communication planning)
- Demonstrates the customer service standards of respect, flexibility,
communication and commitment to residents, families, volunteers, visitors and
coworkers
- Demonstrates an awareness of accident and injury prevention; adheres to safe
work practices and procedures; and is responsible for maintaining
self-wellness and reduced absenteeism
