The Role
The Formulation Specialist is responsible for the accurate, timely, and compliant application and administration of formulations and corresponding pricing requirements.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with any formulation-related regulations that affect livestock feeds
Administration of formulation, manufacturing and accounting system components to support item accuracy and integrity
Implement new and update existing formulas and pricing as provided by Nutrition Consultants
Support a cross-functional team approach by encouraging interdepartmental communication
Create and maintain nutritionally balanced and cost-effective formulas according to animal species and life stage
Timely and accurate completion of urgent formulation requests
Main point of contact for Consultants, Sales Coordinators, and Regional Operations Managers regarding all formula-related matters
Support strong working relationships with toll manufacturers
Create and administer compliant feed labels, auditing as required
Maintenance of accurate ingredient specifications within formulation software
Safety Data Sheets administration for manufactured products
Work with external laboratory analysis vendors to execute forage submissions tracking, monitor analysis results, and verify invoices
Assist in tracking and recording feed and ingredient laboratory analysis to support quality manufacturing and product delivery
Customer benchmarking and data management
Maintain formulation measurables and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements
Support day-to-day costing and pricing consistency and communication, e.g. item creation, update and archiving, unit of measure, currency exchange etc.
Use a collaborative approach to identify and resolve pricing-related system and process issues, inefficiencies and redundancies
Administration of vendor pricing, ensure item accuracy and liaise with vendors to facilitate current pricing data
Other duties as required and assigned

General knowledge of livestock production systems and nutritional/management practices

Enthusiasm for continuous learning relevant to the role with a keen desire to take on new challenges
Qualifications include
Post Secondary Education in Agriculture or equivalent experience is considered an asset
Advanced Microsoft computing and applications skills
Experience using formulation, ration balancing, accounting and manufacturing software is considered an asset
Familiarity with CFIA, FeedAssure/HACCP and Health Canada regulatory and audit requirements would be considered an asset
Previous agriculture or livestock industry experience is considered an asset
