JOB DESCRIPTION OUTLINE
Full-Time Position Title: Strategic Analyst – Crude Oil
Location: Calgary (Hybrid)
Reporting to: Sr. Strategic Analyst
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY
- Develop and maintain long and short-term models for crude oil supply-demand balance for North America with a focus on WCSB and major U.S. shale oil basins.
- Track and analyze market drivers, including production trends, inventory levels, crude oil flows, pipeline dynamics, regulatory developments, and emissions policies.
- Synthesize complex data into clear insights and communicate implications for price movements, basis spreads, and infrastructure bottlenecks.
- Support scenario analysis, pricing and production forecasts, and long-term market outlooks.
- Prepare written reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate on strategic initiatives that link crude oil with broader energy system trends (LNG, NGLs).
- Monitor and interpret relevant data from government, industry, and commercial sources.
- Take part in the development of business proposals, presentations, and pitches to secure new contracts, projects, or partnerships.
- Identify and evaluate potential business opportunities, partnerships, and alliances within the energy sector to drive revenue growth.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources to derive actionable insights and inform decision-making processes.
- Provide direct analytical support and collaboration with management in areas related to organizational and industry growth initiatives.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, finance or economics and 5+ years of experience in energy market analysis, preferably with a focus on North American crude oil markets.

Familiarity with the Enbridge, Keystone, and/or Trans Mountain pipeline systems is highly desirable, along with a comprehensive knowledge of Alberta's crude oil infrastructure, including its limitations, planned expansions, and egress connectivity.

Experience with natural gas market analysis is a plus.

Proven economic, financial modelling and data analytics skills.

Deep understanding of oil and gas market dynamics, including supply demand balance, pricing mechanisms, transportation, regulatory landscapes and cross commodities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey and visualize complex issues to a non-technical audience.

Self-starter with intellectual curiosity and a passion for energy market dynamics. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Demonstrated experience in working in a dynamic environment dealing with complex issues.
