Habitat for Humanity GTA (Habitat GTA) is Greater Toronto’s most recognized provider and advocate of solutions that tackle our region’s housing crisis. Our mission is to create a world where everyone has a safe, quality place to live. We focus on creative solutions to address the affordable housing crisis in Toronto, Brampton, Caledon, York Region and Durham Region. With the help of volunteers, donors and community partners, we unlock change for generations by bringing the benefits of home ownership to more people and communities. In late 2026, Habitat for Humanity GTA will start construction on our first ever project in Whitby – a 48-unit townhome community.
Job Purpose
The Whitby Action Committee (WAC) is a new approach for Habitat GTA. Its aim is to mobilize community volunteers to help bring Habitat GTA’s first ever build project in Whitby to fruition. Volunteer efforts include awareness raising, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and outreach to potential prospective Habitat homeowners. The Project and Fundraising Lead will be a catalyst for the efforts of the Whitby Action Committee while ensuring ongoing alignment with other Habitat GTA messaging, processes, and priorities.
In this capacity, you will balance overall project management of the multiple activities of WAC while proactively leading local fundraising efforts.
This role will be on a six (6) month, part-time basis, working two days per week. Subject to performance and to the evolving needs of the Whitby build project, there is possibility to extend the contract through the entire duration of the project.
Job Duties
Project Management for the Whitby Action Committee - coordinate meetings, track priorities, follow up on action items
Close liaison with the Co-Chairs, Committee Chairs and Committee Members
Liaison with Habitat GTA internal stakeholders ie/ marketing team, fundraising team, planning and construction team, etc.
Support and augment the work of the Whitby Action Committee on:
Corporate and individual fundraising - focus on identifying prospects for donations, Build Day participation, in-kind donations of building materials, and the annual Meaning of Home Contest
Awareness raising (attending/speaking at events)
Recruitment of members of the working group
Liaison with the Mayor’s office, and other key external stakeholders
Summary of Skills & Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in project management
Successful track record in sales and/or fundraising
Previous experience as a volunteer and/or in coordinating the work of volunteers
Whitby resident and/or strong ties to networks in Whitby
Strong technology skills (Microsoft Office, social media, AI)
Excellent communication and public speaking skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities on a part-time schedule
