Paralegal The Role The Paralegal's principal role is to provide legal support services in the context of litigious files for both insurer and non-insurer clients in collaboration with the other Paralegal in the office. The incumbent will participate in the management of these files by assisting lawyers and/or partners in the legal review and analysis of documents, by preparing Affidavits of Records, file chronologies, and by overseeing the physical and electronic document management of the files. This is an exempt position which is part of the fee earner job family. The annual billable target is 1400 hours. Responsibilities Assisting lawyers with the preparation of Affidavits of Records, chronologies, questioning briefs, undertaking responses, expert retainers, trial preparation, Bills of Costs and other tasks as required. Organizing and managing all relevant documentation, namely pleadings, production, exhibits, undertakings and their respective updates. Managing and saving emails according to their category and the descriptions to be assigned to them. Attending regular meetings with the lawyers, reviewers and other teams, as needed. Preparing summary tables of the key elements of the files. Preparing and organizing for questioning for discovery. Following-up with lawyers on undertakings given during questioning. Performing specific tasks as needed in accordance with the procedural steps of the file. Assisting with maintaining the database of memoranda, opinions and other precedent documents. Performing any other task related to the role of paralegal and as new business needs arise Qualifications College program in paralegal technology or other training deemed equivalent. Minimum three to five years' relevant experience in the legal department of a firm, company or other professional services environment. Experience collaborating in the management of litigation files and/or related insurance files. Excellent writing skills. Ease working with the full Microsoft Office suite and other new software or technological tools likely to transform the performance of work over time. Strong organizational skills and outstanding work ethic. Marked ability to analyze and summarize information. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines. Ease developing relationships of trust with internal clients and ability to establish credibility.
