GIS Analyst, Forestry, Adams Lake, British Columbia
When you join our team as a GIS Analyst, Forestry, you will use GIS expertise to support strategic initiatives and improve timber supply planning in BC Interior Woodlands. This includes identifying and resolving constraints on harvestable timber, and providing data-driven insights for planning related to First Nations, landscape development, and strategic priorities. The role also involves developing GIS tools to boost operational efficiency, collaborating across teams to ensure mapping products meet needs, and leading efforts in database management, ArcGIS Enterprise solutions, and operational mapping.
This role can be based out of Adams Lake, Castlegar or Grand Forks.
What You’ll Do
Support and lead strategic planning processes initiated by government (Land Use Plans, Forest Landscape Plans, wildlife habitat planning, landscape level planning) by completing analysis, developing GIS tools, spatial
data support and assisting with implementation and training.
Perform analysis for support of First Nations initiatives (First Nation driven strategic level planning, GIS analysis for tenure evaluation, strategic plan interpretation/implementation).
Support and influence development of results/strategies/targets related to Forest Landscape Plan development.
Support development of Forest Operation Plans under FLPs.
Assist with TFL management plan and TSR processes and analysis
Create analysis and mapping products/tools that support operations and managers to make operating and strategic decisions
Assist in maintaining up-to date GIS data inventories for operational uses and decision making.
Ensure data integrity and quality through the management of GIS data standards and spatial data audits.
Assist in systems integration development projects throughout the organization.
Coordinate LiDAR data collection projects, process LiDAR data into end user products and integrate into existing workflows.
Stay current with GIS technology trends, tools, and best practices relevant to the forestry sector.
What You Offer
5+ years’ experience in the forest sector.
Forestry related Diploma or Degree and/or GIS related Certificate, Diploma or Degree GIS degree from a recognized university or institute of technology or higher education
Solid understanding of ESRI ArcPro, ArcMap, databases and MS Excel to perform and present complex analytical projects to support strategic initiatives.
Demonstrated abilities with programming languages such as Python and SQL
Familiar with Land Resource Manager (LRM).
Proficient with relational databases in Oracle and SQL Server
Advanced GIS and analytical expertise
Strong problem-solving skills
The ability to work independently and effectively during periods of high work volume
Knowledge of BC interior forestry practices and operations
Embraces teamwork, has a positive impact on the team, supports team decisions
Takes personal responsibility for the quality, prioritizing, and timeliness of work.
Ensures own work and the work of others meet professional standards.

Interfor has posted the following expected salary range that the company believes in good faith could be offered to successful candidates. The salary offered is benchmarked to current market conditions and will also be based on numerous factors which can include work experience, skills, credentials, education, and other relevant factors. In addition to a competitive salary, you will receive a competitive benefits package and be able to participate in our Short-Term Incentive Bonus plan, with the payout amount subject to individual and corporate performance. Expected range: $75,000 – $90,000
