Overview
Inspects sites, investigates situations, and gathers evidence for snow and ice on sidewalks, dog licensing and for other by-law related duties as assigned. Issues Violation Notices, Provincial Offence Notices and summonses as required. Provides instruction and clarification to the public daily.
Responsibilities
Inspect sidewalks and issues notices of violation for snow and ice on sidewalk violations, gather data on conditions of sidewalk, re-inspect sidewalks as required and assist with Dog Licensing Inspections and other by-law investigations as assigned.
Answer public inquiries (e-mail, phone) for all aspects of City by-laws related to snow & ice on sidewalks, dog licensing and other by-laws or duties as assigned.
Plans daily patrol route, ensuring all areas requiring attention are covered efficiently and effectively.
Attends Court to have information's and Summons sworn by Justice of the Peace; provides Legal Services staff with copy; serves copy to defendants.
Updates information in electronic data collection system, maintains detailed notes to be used as evidence in court.
Appears in Court as expert witness as required.
Required to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions for an entire shift.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
2-year post-secondary diploma in Law and Security, Protection Security and Investigations or Police Foundations.
Minimum of 1-year related experience in Law Enforcement.
Valid MTO G class driver's license in good standing.
Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment.
Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.
Possess good public relations skills and be able to handle potentially abusive situations.
Ability to communicate well and testify in court.
Must wear a uniform.
Ability to work independently and can analyze situations with problem solving, negotiating and mediation skills.
Understanding of various Municipal By-Laws.
Valid CPR Level “C” and Standard First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain.
Detail oriented and can take clear and concise notes.
Experience and developed skills in the use of a personal computer, with the ability to use software programs such as: AMANDA, OnPoint, Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc., with accurate keyboarding skills.
A personal vehicle is required for this position.
Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
