Role Overview
The primary function of the Licensed Practical Nurse is to assist physicians by preparing exam rooms, taking patient histories, and performing skills such as suturing, biopsies, excisions as directed by the physician, along with supporting our busy wart clinic. This role is also accountable for ensuring patients receive exceptional care and are provided with the “U” experience throughout their visit with their physician.
Role Objectives
The Licensed Practical Nurse’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Observe, assess, monitor, and document patient symptoms, reactions, and progress
Council patients in a confidential manner on the details and risks of procedures and treatments
Possess advanced product knowledge to educate and advise clients on appropriate care out of clinic
Conduct wart treatments using methods such as cryogenic spray
Complete all necessary training required for medical devices and participate in internal and external audits as required
Solo position; responsible for managing own schedule and ensuring the clinic runs during physician hours for billing purposes
See 15–20 patients per day, with wart clinic patients booked every 15 minutes
Chart and bill the province for all necessary treatments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with clinic protocols
Educate and inform patients about home care, self-care, and treatment management specific to wart care
Responsible for medical device reprocessing between patients to ensure proper sterilization of equipment
Prepare and maintain templates for wart patient documentation
Follow learning pathways related to wart care, including pairing warts and ongoing training as required
Perform and assist with wart treatment procedures in line with clinic protocols (excludes children, as well as hand, genital, foot warts, and molluscum cases)
Counsel patients in a confidential manner on the details and risks of procedures and treatments
Follow clinic protocols to ensure no medical or clerical errors are made
Communicate effectively with the physician and team to ensure a cohesive and efficient clinic environment
Responsible for treatment room clean-up and overall clinic cleanliness
Ensure medical inventory related to wart treatments is accurate and kept up to date
Participate in in-house and external training as required
Perform other duties as requested by management and supervisory team
Full-time position, 5 days per week, with varying hours depending on clinic schedule
Role Qualifications
LPN diploma from an accredited institution
Current registration within the provincial licensing body
Active CPR certification
2+ years of private or public practice nursing experience
Previous experience in the dermatology sector (preferred)
Foot Care Certification (Preferred)
Experience using MedAccess (preferred)
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work as a team and independently
Flexible availability, willingness to work weekends and evenings (required)
