This is how Aecon Utilities is committed to delivering projects. At Aecon Utilities, we’re committed to delivering infrastructure projects that are not only efficient and innovative but also grounded in safety and sustainability. Our mission is clear: to be the partner of choice in utility construction by driving excellence in everything we do. As part of Aecon’s Utilities sector, the Aecon Utility Engineer (AUE) team plays a pivotal role in supporting construction through in-house engineering expertise. AUE is dedicated to enhancing project outcomes by integrating value-added quality management assurance programs that meet and exceed client expectations. We’re looking for passionate professionals who thrive in a collaborative environment and are ready to contribute to impactful projects that shape communities. If you're driven by purpose and want to be part of a team that builds with integrity and innovation, Aecon Utilities is where your career can thrive. What is the Opportunity? AUE is seeking a Field Technician to support telecom infrastructure projects through precise data collection, site assessments, and permit-ready documentation. You'll work independently in the field using mobile tools to capture measurements, identify constructability risks, and ensure data integrity for design teams. What You'll Do Here Use mobile field data capture (i.e., Field Maps, IKE) to record attributes, sketches, and photos; sync datasets to the project repository for design use. Provide measurements and imagery for Municipal Consent/ROW, aerial permit packages, and traffic control inputs (TTC/TMP). Identify constructability risks early and propose practical alternatives (i.e., route shifts, chamber placements, aerial vs. underground options). Verify coordinate systems and basemaps, maintain data integrity, naming conventions, version control, and complete survey logs for traceability. Apply QA/QC checklists to ensure completeness and accuracy of collected data before publishing to the design team. Participate in the Comment Resolution Matrix (CRM) by clarifying field conditions and resolving reviewer comments prior to resubmission. Provide regular updates on field progress, issues, and changes; assist with post-construction as-built verification when required. Follow Aecon’s safety policies and field procedures, including traffic awareness, utility locate coordination, site access permissions, and PPE compliance. What You Bring to the Team 1–3 years of experience in field survey or telecom design support (FTTH/OSP/ISP); co-op or internship experience considered. Hands-on experience with mobile field capture tools (i.e., IKE device/workflows, ArcGIS Field Maps), basic AutoCAD redlining, and familiarity with ESRI/GIS platforms. Working knowledge of telecom route feasibility, ROW constraints, and municipal permitting inputs. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear communication; comfortable working independently outdoors in varied weather conditions. Valid provincial driver’s license in good standing. Diploma or certificate in Geomatics/Survey, Civil/Telecom Technology, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience. Aecon fosters diversity, inclusion and belonging within and across our organization. We welcome all to apply including, women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity. We are committed to adhering to the objectives and requirements outlined in the Accessible Canada Act (ACA), and to meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner. Through the implementation of the requirements of the ACA and its applicable regulations, appropriate accommodations will be provided upon request throughout the interview and hiring process.
