The Role: Morningstar is a leading provider of global manager research. We're looking for a skilled professional to lead our team in Canada, ensuring we produce high-quality, strategy-level analysis and broader asset class research that empowers investors. As the Director, you will be responsible for managing the Canadian Manager Research team. You'll work closely with Canadian business leaders and key industry stakeholders to ensure our research is timely, relevant, and impactful. This position is based in our Toronto office. Responsibilities: Foster a collaborative team culture that aims for and prizes high-quality research, resulting in analyses that are insightful, ratings that are good calls for investors, and broader research that helps investors understand the managed products landscape Act as a key spokesperson for Morningstar through active engagements with the external market, including but not limited to the regulator, wealth managers, asset managers, and the media, to strengthen understanding of Morningstar’s capabilities You will lead Morningstar's investment ratings and internal research processes. This includes being directly accountable for the performance of Canadian ratings recommendations. Manage a team of analysts, making sure that they are executing their coverage, research and other responsibilities Represent Morningstar on the Canadian Investment Funds Standards Committee (CIFSC) to contribute to Canada’s fund category standardization initiative Ensure that analysts are fully prepared to best represent themselves to the investment community Coordinate with other Manager Research Directors to align employee key performance indicators to business goals Work alongside senior team members to set the group’s thought leadership agenda Instill an ethos of continuous improvement regarding analysis, research, team organization and collaboration Requirements: Bachelor’s degree; an MBA, CFA, or other advanced degree/accreditation a plus At least 8 years of experience in manager research or an investment research role Demonstrated track record in an investment/research leadership role leading a high performing analyst team. Demonstrated expertise in strategy-level analysis and managed investments landscape Excellent written and verbal communications skills Strong presentation skills, where experience with the media, clients, and large audiences is preferred. Proactive aptitude to building effective internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and acting as a representative of Morningstar. Ability to work within an interdisciplinary and international team that includes investment experts, qualitative researchers, data analysts, and software developers.
