About you:
You are someone who is dedicated to learning and researching about ongoing behaviors or concerns of the Individuals. You have an adequate knowledge about current mental health and addiction concerns and behaviors. You have previous experience or knowledge regarding bio hazards or illicit substances use. You are willing take training on Universal Precaution or Infection Prevention & Control and support the Individuals using PPE. You are ready to work in an environment that promotes the safe disposal of used needles or drug paraphernalia. You are willing to understand and learn the Individual's trauma history and collaborate with your team to come up with strategies to support them. You have excellent leadership skills and qualities, where you are not afraid to step-up in a crisis situation. You are someone who brings an adaptive, strong, and bold personality, as there will be Individuals who have verbally and physically aggression tendencies.
Daily responsibilities may and will include any of the following and will vary depending on the individual being supported each day...
Provide medical, technological, environmental, emotional, physical, and behavioural support
Attend medical/legal appointments with the Individuals
Administer daily documentation, medication of the Individual, and key worker duties
Assist Individuals in their daily chores and activities within the community or in the group home
Support safety and cleanliness of the Individual's living space
Complete tasks such fire drills//hazard assessments
Communicate with OPG/Guardians/Family Member
Collaborate, advocate & research for the support Individual if necessary, such as hospitals if required
Specific support to the Individuals on an ODP (Opioid Dependency Program) or O.A.T
Drive to meet Individuals, or be able to transport them to activities or appointments throughout the day
Learn the behavioural support plans to better understand Individual needs and requirements.
Effectively complete required incident reports
Schedule & Benefits:
This position is based at our main facilities Calgary North East and is a permanent role offering 30 hours per week. The schedule is Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Since driving is required for this position, we reimburse mileage at $0.65/km. The starting pay rate for this position is $21.19 per hour. This role includes 4%vacation pay plus an additional 5flex days per year after the first 3 months of employment. All regular staff are eligible to pick up additional casual hours at any of our locations outside of their scheduled hours.
Minimum Requirements:
A Certificate/Diploma in the Human Services or Disability sector (equivalencies will be considered)
Intermediate computer skills
Valid class 5 driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and minimum $2,000,000 liability insuranceby time of hire
One-year relevant experience in the human services field or disability sector
Must be comfortable supporting individuals in a swimming pool
Must be comfortable supporting individuals around animals/pets
Comfortable supporting individuals with diverse disabilities and complex diagnoses
Preferred Requirements:
Previous training or experience with lifts, transfers, or g-tubes
Experience working with families, community resources and building rapport with stakeholders
Having experience supporting individuals with mental health illnesses, ASD, or additions would be an asset
Current trainings including First Aid/CPR, Medication Administration, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, Positive Behaviour Supports, etc.
