Consider this opportunity. The Azure SQL Server DBA (Data Engineer II) is responsible for the design, development, administration, and support of SQL Server databases and related data platforms. This includes building and maintaining schemas, stored procedures, ETL processes, archival routines, and performance optimization. The role also involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and ensuring high availability, security, and disaster recovery of SQL Server environments both on-premises and in Azure. The DBA will gather and review requirements, lead solution design, implement efficient and scalable database solutions, and proactively identify risks, performance issues, and potential impacts. The position also supports testing, productization, and release processes. Here is what you will need to be successful Provides mentoring and technical guidance to junior Data Engineers on engineering practices and problem-solving. Shares insights on design decisions and business requirements to support implementation clarity. Ensures timely and consistent execution of work assignments. Owns tasks, initiatives, and service quality within assigned scope. Recommends and leads improvements to engineering practices that enhance team efficiency. Collaborates with product teams to suggest features that improve user experience and maintainability. Operates independently within defined project scope, guided by Lead Engineers and Product Managers. Education and Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field or equivalent experience. 5–7 years of hands-on experience administering and managing SQL Server databases in on-premises and Azure environments. In-depth knowledge of software development and software development Life Cycle (SDLC). Strong expertise in SQL Server installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades.In-depth knowledge of data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques. Proven experience with high availability (Always On, Failover Clustering), disaster recovery, and backup/restore strategies.Strong knowledge of relevant data query languages (e.g., SQL, KQL, etc.). Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar). Strong operational knowledge of Azure SQL Database, Azure Managed Instance, and related Azure data services. Strong knowledge of database security, encryption, auditing, and compliance best practices. In-depth knowledge of relevant data manipulation techniques. Strong knowledge of data analytics techniques. Strong knowledge of data processing platforms (Spark, ADF, etc.). In-depth knowledge of database design using relational, document, object, big data, tabular, and other platform types. Strong operational knowledge of relevant data platforms in on-premises environments and cloud platforms. Excellent knowledge of best practices related to product deployment, operations, and support of databases and pipelines. Excellent knowledge of data security and data protection mechanisms. Strong knowledge and understanding of data management authorities and legislation relevant to health care in Ontario. Designs and develops complex, scalable, multi-platform data environments and architectures, including entity relationships and transformation solutions. Collaborates across teams—including product, IT Operations, Cloud Centre of Excellence, Architecture, and Security—to deliver secure and efficient data services.
