Infrastructure Ontario (IO), an Ontario crown corporation, provides a wide range of services to support the Ontario government’s initiative to modernize and maximize the value of public infrastructure and realty. Position Purpose:
IO is responsible for delivering Ontario’s largest and most exciting infrastructure projects, including hospitals, highways, courthouses, cultural venues, correctional facilities, subways, light rail systems, and GO Transit. The Commercial Resolutions Group is a specialized branch of IO’s legal department that manages complex claims and disputes. This role exists to reduce risk on major projects, minimize reliance on external counsel, and provide strategic legal advice that supports project success.
What You Will Do:
Resolve major disputes on Ontario’s most important infrastructure projects
Be the primary legal advisor on several troubled projects, addressing complex issues during construction
Provide high-quality, commercially focused legal advice to senior executives and project teams
Develop clear, practical solutions to challenging problems
Negotiate directly with opposing counsel on high-impact matters
Collaborate with integrated project teams including engineers, architects, project managers, finance experts, and procurement specialists
Oversee and coordinate external counsel, including litigation and arbitration matters
Lead continuous improvement initiatives based on lessons learned from active disputes
What We Are Looking For:
A few years’ experience (Legal Counsel) or several years’ experience (Senior Legal Counsel) in litigation and/or commercial law
Experience in any of the following is considered an asset: construction law, contract and claims management, infrastructure law
Member of the Law Society of Ontario in good standing
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide practical advice
Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-legal audiences
Detail-oriented, analytical, and reliable
Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences and decision-making contexts
Curiosity and openness to solving complex problems with multiple possible outcomes
Comfort with ambiguity and willingness to challenge assumptions
Professional learnings that reflect legal reasoning, negotiation, and dispute resolution competencies

We offer a competitive salary range of $108,900 to $187,800 (L1 & L2 level), pay will align with skills, knowledge and experience of the candidate.
