WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH The Capital Markets & Credit Investments (CM&CI) department manages C$165B of capital markets and credit investments (56% of total net AUM of BCI). The department invests globally across Credit, Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives, and Absolute Return Strategies, with investment teams located in BCI's global offices in Victoria, Vancouver, New York, and London. As a leader in responsible investing, CM&CI actively integrates ESG factors into investment analysis and decision-making processes across all strategies. WHAT YOU BRING Must have: Degree in financial economics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, data science, or a related quantitative discipline. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a graduate degree, or a minimum of 4 years of quantitative research and development experience without a graduate degree. Strong quantitative skills with proven independent problem-solving ability. Proficiency in programming (Python strongly preferred), with solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design; experience with SQL and relational/non-relational databases. Experience conducting empirical research and analyzing large, complex data sets. Experience with advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent attention to detail. Passionate about investing, self-motivated, and eager to learn in a collaborative environment. Diplomacy, tactfulness with strong interpersonal skills. Preferred: Experience with systematic investment strategies and quantitative portfolio management. Experience working with unstructured data (e.g., text or alternative datasets) applied to quantitative investing. Experience working with natural language models (LLMs) in the context of quantitative investing. Experience in contributing to large codebases within a team setting. Experience with equity risk models and convex portfolio optimization. Working towards Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or similar designation. WHAT YOU WILL DO Conducts quantitative research on new or improved alpha signals, with an emphasis on applying advanced machine learning techniques and working with alternative or unstructured data. This includes identifying ideas, sourcing and cleaning data, performing statistical analysis and back-testing, and interpreting and presenting results. Contributes to research and development in portfolio construction, including the use of risk models, transaction cost models, and optimization techniques to improve portfolio efficiency and risk-adjusted returns. Collaborates with team members to design, develop, and maintain the team’s proprietary portfolio management platform and research infrastructure, ensuring that models and strategies are efficiently implemented in production. Assists with ongoing risk and performance attribution analysis of the portfolios to support investment decision-making and monitoring. Participates in the regular rebalancing of portfolios, including preparation and validation activities. Monitors the strategies’ risk exposures, handles corporate actions, and supports daily cash management and reconciliation of fund holdings. Provides timely support to senior team members by responding to a variety of requests for analysis, research, or operational assistance. WHERE YOU WILL WORK This role will be based in our office in downtown Vancouver, BC SALARY RANGE The annualized base salary range for this Vancouver-based role is CAD $112,000 to $136,000.
