About the Role:
As Advisor, Driving Safety, you’ll support the improvement, implementation and sustainment of ATCO’s driving safety strategies across both Gas and Electric Utilities. Reporting to the Health & Safety team, this role serves as the subject matter expert for all transportation safety and National Safety Code (NSC) matters, while also supporting Occupational Health & Safety compliance, safety culture transformation, and continuous performance improvement.
You’ll provide expert advice and support to operations and leadership teams, coach drivers, support in identifying areas for improvement based on feedback and incident trends and contribute to audits and investigations. With a footprint across Alberta, this position supports field-based teams with real-time consultation, driving meaningful changes through data, coaching, and collaboration.
What You’ll Do:
Lead ATCO’s National Safety Code (NSC) Driver Program for Natural Gas and Electricity Utilities (ATCO Energy Systems).
Deliver training, presentations, and site visits to support driver safety initiatives
Support driving-related safety programs and initiatives
Provide consultation on health and safety legislation, standards, and innovations
Support the development and implementation of safety resources, processes, and tools
Coach and mentor junior safety professionals and students.
Support and participate in internal and external audits (COR, NSC, OHS)
Coordinate abstract reviews and NSC driver compliance monitoring
What You Bring:
Certified Transportation Safety Professional (CTSP), Certified Transportation Safety Coordinator (CTSC) Designation or Commercial Vehicle Enforcement background
Advanced knowledge of the National Safety Code and Transport Compliance
Graduate or Undergraduate degree or diploma in a related discipline.
Minimum 3 years of industry (oil & gas or utilities) experience in a safety-related role
Minimum 3 years of experience within a Fleet Safety or Transportation Compliance role
Experience as a Class 1 Driver or coaching and mentoring Class 1 drivers is an asset
Knowledge of OHS Act/Regulations, CSA Standards, other legislative requirements, applicable federal, provincial and municipal regulations/legislation, industry standards, Workplace Safety & Insurance Act and best practices
Experience in Motor Vehicle Collision Investigation would be an asset.
TapRoot® Cause Analysis or similar experience considered an asset
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Power Point
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract
Valid Alberta Class 1 drivers license would be an asset
Willingness to travel across Alberta up to 35% of the time
This is a safety-sensitive position with pre-employment screening required
