Job Description
Summary of Duties, but not limited to:
Functions as a member of an inter-disciplinary team and works collaboratively utilizing a client centered approach
Provides comprehensive nonjudgmental sexual health assessment, education, treatment and follow-up including; testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and associated follow up care, counseling for abortion care and contraceptive options.
Assesses the physical, mental and emotional status of clients; provides emotional support, crisis counseling and follow-up with a particular emphasis on responding to disclosures of intimate partner abuse.
Responds to and triages patient phone calls, gives telephone advice/ instructions within their scope of practice.
Informs patients of test results as delegated by physician (e.g. lab, radiology or other investigative procedures) as required and organizes necessary follow-up arrangements
Supports and facilitates Women’s College Hospital’s commitments to academic, research, teaching in an ambulatory care setting.
Serves as a Champion by demonstrating a commitment to client care that is consistent with evidence based practice and in breaking down stereotypes of sexual differences and lifestyle choices; actively promotes carthat supports persons regardless of their sexual orientation and identity.
As part of a teaching hospital the RN will provide mentorship/preceptorship to new staff and students.
As a role model and champion you will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care.

Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Nursing preferred
Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
Current BCLS certification required
Recent work experience in an ambulatory women’s health setting.
Knowledge in abortion services, contraceptive options and STI ( sexually transmitted infections)
Demonstrated experience in counseling for sexual health/crisis situations, including assessment, intervention, referrals and linkages to community resources/supports.
Must have knowledge and experience in the process of establishing a therapeutic relationship with an understanding of interpersonal and development theory and the relationship of social justice to social, cultural and
Demonstrates a commitment to women’s sexual and reproductive health with an emphasis on abortion access and care.
Previous experience in vaginal/speculum examinations.
Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated experience in client/patient education/teaching.
Ability to speak a second language is an asset.
Ability to provide nursing care with patients who require a language/ASL translator
Proficient in electronic patient records, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and Internet.
Exceptional written/verbal communication and patient teaching skills.
Proven attendance and punctuality.
Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
