C Ward is an acute adult community medical and surgical unit that provides care for medical, surgical, and telemetry patients. The unit is supported by a team of allied health staff, Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, clinical education and development, and support staff. C Ward has a primary care physician model working together with the interdisciplinary team, to provide care to acutely ill patients, primarily geriatric population, including patients with multi system chronic illness. As an important member of the health care team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides safe and competent nursing care according to the job description and standards of practice for a Registered Nurse.
Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nursing of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
Current Certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
Demonstrated current knowledge of assessment and management of a broad range of medical diagnosis including respiratory, cardiac, musculoskeletal, palliative care, mental health, geriatric, general surgery, etc.
Demonstrated expertise in physical assessment, health teaching and clinical decision making
Proficient in insertion of intravenous lines
Blood Glucose Testing by finger prick
Demonstrated proficiency in working with patients, families, peers and multidisciplinary healthcare teams in an effective, professional, caring manner
Demonstrated excellent problem-solving and communication skills, both written and verbal
Demonstrated leadership ability and organizational skills, ongoing professional development
Ability to perform well in high stress situations
Demonstrated current knowledge of cardiac and respiratory arrest procedures
