HDR is currently seeking a Civil Engineer. The successful candidate will be involved in design, project coordination, design management, financial and schedule monitoring, stakeholder engagement and negotiations, quality management, and will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to create high-quality design solutions.
Reporting to the Civil Engineering Lead, the Civil Engineer is a member of the integrated project team that contributes site civil engineering knowledge and analysis to the project during the design and construction phase of our work. The project mix is varied across building and infrastructure projects, including new residential and commercial developments, Transit Oriented Communities (TOCs), data centers, health facilities, industrial and waste management facilities.
The role involves working on multi-disciplinary projects with project sites in various locations, including GTA and western Canada. The Civil Engineer may be involved in construction contract administration, site inspections, and condition assessments.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Civil Engineer, we'll count on you to:
Act as a civil engineer as needed, including preparing site civil design, road alignments, cross-sections, site grading models, drainage design, wet utilities design (storm sewer, sanitary sewer and watermain), quantity estimates, cost estimates, project documentation, and specifications
Coordinate designs with the rest of the multidisciplinary team including structural, traffic, pavement, environmental, stormwater management, mechanical, electrical and other disciplines.
Assist the Project Manager in the day-to-day coordination of projects
Support engagement externally and negotiation with key project stakeholders and clients
Prepare work plans and schedules in coordination with project managers and other disciplines
Assist in pursuit of opportunities and preparation of proposals (content generation, schedule, and fee estimates)

Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in site civil or municipal infrastructure engineering design
Familiarity with site civil and road design practices including application of design standards, TAC Geometric Design Guide, various provincial and municipal standards, and preparing contract documents (drawings and specifications)
Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation, Bentley InRoads and/or OpenRoads
Proficiency with utility modeling (gravity and pressure pipes) in Civil 3D
Experience engaging and negotiating with external project stakeholders and clients
Experience with municipal and provincial clients in Ontario
Experience with feasibility and wet utilities capacity studies
Strong organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Potential attendance at job sites to support design and construction activities
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Previous experience in general civil engineering
Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Good verbal and written communication skills
