The Act is designed to enhance public safety by enabling the creation of a new Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS). The amendments ensure the ASPS functions as an independent policing body with strong accountability enhanced civilian oversight, transparency, and accountability. To assist in these efforts, a temporary two-year implementation team has been established within the Public Security Division to lead the work to implement the ASPS. Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Policy Development, the Senior Policy Analyst executes and supports the development of policy and policing standards and procedures that will guide the operational functionality of the ASPS. The position will use their strong understanding of policy development and policing to support the management team in the development of the ASPS operational framework. The position will also use their strong communication and relationship building skills to provide peer review and mentorship to other policy analysts in the unit, when hired. Roles & Responsibilities• Conducts policy research and analysis to support the development of the ASPS. • Prepares briefing notes, Cabinet Reports, issue papers, jurisdictional scans, and other policy documents. • Evaluates existing policies and recommends changes aligned with government priorities. • Coordinates and supports complex policy projects, including planning, risk management, and evaluation. • Develops communication materials for Cabinet submissions, public releases, and stakeholder engagement. • Facilitates working groups and supports collaboration across ministries and external partners. • Responds to action requests and provides concise analysis for senior leadership and executive briefings. • Maintains policy tracking tools and contributes to strategic planning and performance reporting. • Supports Oversight Board activities, including development of the ASPS 3-Year Strategy and Workplan. • May act on behalf of the Manager or other roles as needed, depending on project requirements.Please click on this link to view the job description for this position.APS Competencies

A university degree (4 years) in administration, public policy, sociology, criminology, criminal justice or any other closely related field, plus four (4) years progressively related experience; or equivalent.Equivalency - Directly related education or experience will be considered on the basis of:• 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR• 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. The following will be considered as assets: • Experience managing and implementing projects.• Experience in policy analysis, development, and evaluation, preferably in public policy.• Experience in external/public engagement and consultation.• Public Safety and Emergency Services-related experience.• Experience in policing oversight. • Experience with legislation.
