Maintenance Technician Location: ALS Geochemistry, Sudbury Reports to: Lab Manager General Accountability: As the Maintenance Technician this role will consist primarily of independently performing repairs, maintenance and troubleshooting to the building and operational equipment for the Sample Preparation department. This person is also required to periodically drive the company vehicle for transporting samples, picking up supplies and running errands for the lab. Specific Responsibilities: Maintenance, repair and troubleshoot of prep laboratory equipment; provides reports to Manager; Routine maintenance, repairs and troubleshoot on equipment such as heating and A/C units, and blowers, plumbing and carpentry work; May supervise or train other prep maintenance technicians Maintenance and tracking of spare part inventory and ordering functions Other general shipping, receiving and supplies warehousing functions as needed; Maintain cleanliness of company vehicle, perform and record daily operational checks; Transport samples and supplies in accordance with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act. Use correct methods in accordance with established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong mechanical aptitude; Good organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines; Strong English communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; Excellent problem solving skills; Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team; Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues. Required Qualifications: 1 year experience in general building repairs and operations is required; Experience working with carpentry, plumbing, drywall and/or painting will be an asset; 1 year experience working in the sample preparation environment an asset; Forklift certificate or experience will be an asset; Current and valid applicable Provincial driver’s license with clean driving history. Abstract required; No physical limitations that would prevent the candidate from securing additional licenses or maintain current license (ex. Medication); No conditions that would prohibit the driving of long distances A valid First-Aid certificate will be an asset. Physical Demands: Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time; Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with machines; Comfortable in environments with high noise levels, ability to work in a hot and dusty environment; Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks; Ability to lift up to 50lbs; (occasionally lifting may exceed 50lbs and assistance is mandatory from either another employee or the lift assist equipment); Be cleanly-shaven in order to wear protective equipment. Please note that ALS Geochemistry operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
