This position reports to the Animal Health Section (AHS), which works closely with the Office of the Chief Provincial Veterinarian (OCPV). Together, AHS and OCPV work with industry partners, other provinces, and all levels of government to prevent and control animal diseases. Their joint efforts include providing information, monitoring regulated diseases, and ensuring compliance with Alberta’s Animal Health Act and Reportable and Notifiable Diseases Regulation.Role Responsibilities

Working within the AHS and in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Provincial Veterinarian (OCPV), the role provides operational support and policy input, particularly in the areas of livestock and poultry disposal, and premises identification. This position will support the Chief Provincial Veterinarian (CPV) and Ministry staff with guidance, developing and implementing livestock and poultry disposal plans for producers and meat facilities in Alberta following the principles of the Disposal of Dead Animals Regulation under the Animal Health Act, as well as legislation of other Government of Alberta Ministries and the Government of Canada, ensuring that disposal is complying with the conditions in all legislation.Key Responsibilities:
Lead livestock and poultry disposal planning.
Develop livestock and poultry disposal plans for approval by the CPV.
Work with producers and meat facilities on disposal plans that comply with legislation.
Provide input into livestock and poultry disposal policy using knowledge from development of disposal plans.
Provide information and clarification on livestock and poultry disposal legislation to Ministry staff, producers, industry associations, meat facilities and CFIA.
Participate in Animal Disease Outbreak and Emergency Management.
Support OCPV in the development and maintenance of a mass livestock mortality disposal plan in the event of a foreign animal disease.
Lead the mass livestock mortality disposal in the event of a foreign animal disease.
Coordinate Premises Identification Data (PID) Maintenance Projects.
Provide Representation on Committees and Collaborate on Ministry Priorities.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirement for this Role:
University graduation (Science, Animal Science, Agriculture or a related field) plus four (4) years progressively responsible related experience such as animal health.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Preference will be given to those that can demonstrate knowledge of food animal production systems and knowledge of livestock and poultry disposal.
Assets:
Understanding of the humane livestock depopulation/livestock disposal process.
Incident Command System Level 300 training.

Office located in Edmonton, AB (O.S Longman Bldg, 6909-116 Street, NW Edmonton, AB T6H 4P2).
Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week.
Monday to Friday (08:15 am-16:30 pm).
Permanent full time.
