The Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration has an exciting opportunity and is looking for a Senior Advisor to join our team!
Reporting to the Director, Programs and Strategic Engagement, the Senior Advisor is responsible for supporting the development of policies, strategies, and initiatives to support newcomer and ethnocultural communities. Responsibilities include leading project work, records management, and agency governance and coordination to ensure succession for advisory council appointments.
The position coordinates and provides ongoing strategic services in response to policy and program issues the department is required to respond to by liaising with other divisions and Government of Alberta departments, drafting responses, conducting research and analysis and providing advice that support the needs of newcomers and multicultural communities. In your role as a Senior Advisor, you will:
Support newcomer, ethnocultural and anti-racism policy and strategy projects.
Compiles, researches and supports the development of policy drafts, briefings, position papers, background material and reports identifying important issues for Alberta's immigrant and ethnocultural communities.
Utilizing the Action Request Tracking System, ensure the timely delivery of briefing materials.
Prepares policy options for elected and senior officials and provide research and analysis on government-wide priorities that impact newcomers and ethnocultural communities.
Develops, coordinates and reviews requests for proposals, and provides recommendations for third party consultants.
Influences outcomes of projects that affect program policy by exercising high degree of interpersonal skills with stakeholders and by effectively positioning ideas and content.
Prepares reports, recommendations, briefing materials, and makes presentations to management and/or external stakeholders for information and/or decisions.
Leads, with minimal supervision, in carrying out policy and planning projects.
Builds and maintains strong working relationships across the division and department to foster a proactive perspective to strategic alignment of policy initiatives.
Works collaboratively with staff across the unit, branch, division, department and across ministries on priority initiatives.
Provides regular status updates to the Director in relation to advancing the policy agenda.
Develops, maintains, and/or recommends information management practices for the Division to ensure timely access and appropriate records management.
Establishes the division's internal records management processes and seeks improvement to current business system.

Qualifications
Requirements:
University graduation degree in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
The following knowledge or experiences are considered as assets:
Experience with developing briefing notes, conducting research, preparing reports, presenting, preparing recommendations data analysis.
Understanding of the policy cycle and experience leading teams and/or projects through the various components.
Knowledge of the interrelationships between the province and the federal government.
Knowledge of the ministry and government related program policies, regulations and legislation.
Experience in project management and working across all levels of government.
Leadership experience that includes management of projects, working with cross-functional teams, building linkages with diverse stakeholders, program development and implementation.
Strong, relationship building and interpersonal skills to work with all stakeholder and colleagues.
Organization and prioritization skills to balance multiple ongoing projects at one time and ability to meet tight timelines.
