ALTTERNATIVE CARE SUPERVISOR - KINSHIP
Full-Time 12-month Term Position

Hours of Work: 7.25 hours per day, flexible
Classification and Salary: SP5 $38.87 to $52.79 hourly
Location: Winnipeg, MB
The Alternative Care Supervisor is responsible for the development, coordination and quality of services provided by the Kinship Care and Live in Family Enhancement (LIFE) program. Provides guidance and supervision to staff so that standards are met within the program. He/she participates in consultations and drafts practice guidelines, new and amended policies and procedures as it relates to the program and the safety of children in care. In addition, the Supervisor provides consultation and assistance regarding quality-of-care concerns within kinship and LIFE homes; the development and implementation of culturally relevant training for Kinship caregivers and LIFE mentors; and the development and revisions of reference material for agency and foster families.
Education and Experience
BSW plus five years of direct child welfare experience
Post-secondary degree in social services plus seven years of direct child welfare experience
Other degrees and experience may be considered
Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills in a changing environment are required
RSW is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
An understanding of the legislation and standards related to Kinship/foster care including the Child and Family Services Act, The Foster Home Licensing Regulation, The Foster Parent Appeals Regulation, and all associated standards.
Demonstrated understanding of Métis culture and communities.
Proven experience developing strategic plans, operational plans, practice guidelines, policies and proposals
Ability to prepare reports with MS software applications: spreadsheet (Excel), word processor (Word)
Ability to maintain highly sensitive and confidential information
Mediation and assessment of harm and danger skills
Ability to assess critical and quality of care issues
Prior to commencing employment, the successful applicant will be asked to provide satisfactory results of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a Child Abuse Registry Check, Prior Contact Check and a Driver’s Abstract upon hire at their own expense. A valid Manitoba driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle are requisites as travel within and outside the city are required.
Registration with the Manitoba College of Social Workers is an asset.
