Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in BUSI 4280U – Social Media Marketing.

Fridays 11:10am – 2:00pm
Please note that this course will be delivered in person on Ontario Tech University’s north campus in Oshawa, Ontario. Unless required for student registration purposes, the schedule is not subject to change without approval from an Associate Dean and/or the Dean.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.
This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.
Qualifications:
In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.
Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and will be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada.
Required Education:
The successful applicant must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
a PhD or DBA in Marketing with demonstrated expertise in Social Media Marketing; OR
a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with extensive professional experience in Social Media Marketing; OR
a Master’s degree in Marketing with extensive professional experience in Social Media Marketing; OR
a Master’s degree in Marketing or Business Administration, coupled with documented evidence of having taught university level courses in Social Media Marketing.
Candidates must include details about their expertise in Social Media Marketing in their application package. Examples of information relevant to establishing expertise in this area include, but are not limited, to:
Details about the candidate’s work experience in Social Media Marketing, including information about roles and responsibilities, as well as years of service in such roles.
Details about the candidate’s publications related to Social Media Marketing, whether in scholarly, peer-reviewed journals or in trade publications. In this case, the candidate should provide copies of or links to these publications.
Details about courses taught in Social Media Marketing. In this case, the candidate should include a copy of the course outline(s), as well as formal teaching evaluations where available.
Required Skills:
The successful candidate will have:
Excellent communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to respond to student inquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner.
High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meet and Kaltura.
Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System.
An ability to develop innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community.
Required Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have taught this course (BUSI 4280) or its equivalent (80% of content identical to BUSI 4280) at the undergraduate level within the past three years, provided that they have received positive teaching evaluations in relation to this course. Candidates can demonstrate that they meet these criteria by providing copies of their course outline and copies of teaching evaluations.
Teaching experience in an undergraduate university commerce program will also be considered an asset. Candidates should outline such experience, along with teaching evaluations if available.
Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
