WHO WE NEED We’re looking for a Hospitality Services Assistant to join our dynamic Event Services team. In this fast-paced, hands-on role, you’ll play a key part in supporting and executing ROM’s internal and external events. From event set-up and tear-down to working closely with catering and vendor partners, you’ll ensure each event runs smoothly and meets ROM’s high standards. If you’ve worked as a porter, event operations assistant, venue crew member, or in similar high-volume event environments, this is a great opportunity to bring your expertise to one of Canada’s premier cultural institutions.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT - Set up, move, and tear down furniture, staging, and event equipment efficiently and safely.
- Support load-in/load-out for rentals, vendors, and catering partners.
- Maintain and restock beverage and event inventory with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Inspect equipment and report any damages or maintenance needs promptly.
- Collaborate with multiple internal teams (Housekeeping, Audio Visual, Visitor Experience, Security, Catering, and others) to ensure flawless execution of events.
- Assist clients, guests, vendors, and agency staff on event days with a professional, service-first approach.
- Maintain storage areas and event spaces in clean, organized condition.
- Use basic software tools (e.g., Word, Excel, and inventory systems) to manage records and reports.
- Follow all ROM standards and operational procedures to ensure quality, safety, and exceptional service.
WHAT YOU BRING - Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in event operations, hospitality, catering, or as a porter/venue crew member.
- Experience in event set-up/tear-down, working with event rental equipment, and supporting large-scale functions (e.g., corporate events, galas, conventions, festivals).
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and move furniture and heavy event equipment safely.
- Excellent teamwork skills and a can-do attitude.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Ontario liquor and health regulations is an asset.
- Familiarity with event floor plans, load-in logistics, and inventory systems (e.g., Freepour, Shopify) is preferred.
- Calm and professional under pressure, with the ability to adapt to real-time changes.
- French language skills are an asset.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN OUR INTERVIEW PROCESS * Initial conversation: A 30-minute virtual conversation** with a Recruiter to discuss your interest in the role and ROM and how you can make an impact.
- First interview: A 1-hour in-person or virtual interview with the Hiring Manager and a member of the HR team. This in-depth interview will focus on your skills and how they align with the team's and ROM's needs.
- Second interview: A 40-minute in-person practical lift and mobility assessment designed to evaluate your physical ability to safely and effectively perform the core tasks of the role, including lifting, carrying, and moving event equipment and furniture.
