As a Transit Operator (Bus Driver), you will:
Join the future of transit using ETS’s advanced technology and innovative equipment, designed to support Transit Operators in navigating city routes. Drive a 25 ft lift-equipped, 30 ft, 40 ft, or 60 ft transit bus in busy traffic and all types of weather
Interact with diverse community members, caregivers and clients, provide advice, and solve problems on the go
Handle tough situations with a focus on keeping passengers safe
Patiently, respectfully and effectively communicate with caregivers and clients with diverse needs and abilities in a variety of diverse and challenging situations
Drive with care to avoid and prevent accidents, follow local traffic laws and follow Edmonton Transit Service regulations and standards
Handle various mobility devices and equipment, including manual wheelchairs, ensuring they are secure for transport
Be independent and make your own decisions in different traffic and emergency situations
Provide door-to-door transportation services while ensuring the safety, comfort and wellbeing of clients with diverse needs and abilities, whether onboard, boarding or disembarking the transit vehicle

Grade twelve (12) or GED - If education is from outside of Canada, you must obtain a Canadian equivalency
OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience (2 years of professional driving experience with passengers & a minimum of 2 years of experience in the customer service field that includes experience dealing with the public (face-to-face)
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or higher) or provincial equivalent (non-probationary & non-graduated)
Applicants must have held a valid license for the last five (5) consecutive years
Assets:
Advanced Licensing: A valid Class 1 or 2 driver's license.
Extensive Customer Service: 4 years of face-to-face experience serving the public.
Proven Driving Record: 4 years of continuous, professional driving experience (driving passengers. example: transit, school bus, uber, taxi, airport shuttle etc)
Relevant Experience: Prior experience operating large vehicles or previous work as a transit operator.
A minimum of 6 months of experience working with diverse clients with complex needs such as caregivers, healthcare workers, home health aide, personal care attendant
What you need to be Hired:
MUST provide a minimum 5-year Commercial Driver's Abstract meeting all of the following criteria:
No more than three (3) demerits (or equivalent) and no more than one (1) moving violation/conviction within the last 5 years
No past or pending license suspensions or Criminal Code suspensions or convictions within the last 5 years
Non-driving related suspensions of registry services, if indicated, must show a reinstatement date
Note: Demerits reduced by attending a defensive driver training course will not be accepted
As you will be working among vulnerable members of the public, a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search satisfactory to the City of Edmonton is required. (Please note, candidates will be responsible for any costs associated with this requirement)
Pre-employment driver’s medical examination and a Functional Abilities Assessment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
Successful completion of an Alberta Air Brake Endorsement and Alberta Class 2 license written knowledge test prior to training

Permanent full-time positions
Hours of Work: Applicants must be available to work a variety of shifts such as straight or split shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays. Shifts can be any time of the day and any 7 days of the week.
First-year: Guaranteed minimum of 67.5 hours biweekly
Second-year and onwards: Guaranteed minimum of 74 hours biweekly
Salary:
Training Rate: $25.674 Hourly
Post Training Rate: $31.558- $39.444 (Hourly); $61,774.790 - $77,211.630 (Annually)
