GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Supervisor, Parks and Roads Services is responsible for providing guidance, mentorship and support to their area. The incumbent leads the area and sets priorities to ensure the department is an effective and proficient part of Public Works. Primary responsibilities of this position include:
Employee Development: Performs supervisory tasks for assigned team members. Works with team to plan and balance workload. Ensures teams are managed fairly and consistently and that work processes are followed and coordinated to ensure service levels. Mentors, coaches, and provides support to staff. Assists in recruitment and training of staff.
Research and Implementation: Participates in the continuous research, development, improvement, and implementation of effective departmental strategies, tools, and guidelines based on the Municipality’s best practices. Analyzes the effectiveness of departmental programs and makes suggestions for further improvement. Provides input to department business plans, initiatives, and budget to ensure continuous achievement of department goals.
Departmental Guidance: Evaluates and prepares plans, reports, and recommendations on all aspects of parks or roads operations. Effectively plans, budgets, and communicates parks or roads operations in line with departmental strategic direction. Manages municipal projects and initiatives in line with the departmental operational and capital plans. Consults with and informs the public, community user groups, and other stakeholders of roads and parks maintenance plans and progress. Routinely inspects work in progress and advises crews of required changes. Reviews and advises on the maintenance and issuance of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials required for the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads and parks.

Sound, practical judgment using independent decision making.
Knowledge of all equipment and processes used in roads maintenance.
EDUCATION:
Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Green Science, Parks Management, Business or a related discipline.
Canadian Public Works Supervisors Certificate and membership or eligibility for membership in APEGA or ASET would be considered an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years with a degree or six (6) years with a diploma, of progressive experience in the field of road maintenance and/or parks management with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a leadership/supervisory capacity.
Experience working in a public sector environment with unionized and non-unionized employees considered an asset.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check for review and acceptance.
A valid Class five (5) Operator’s License is required as incumbent may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis.
Must be willing to work outside in all conditions.
Immunizations are strongly recommended for work in unsanitary conditions.
