Job Description
The Business Unit Leader is responsible for overseeing end to end business activities at Avery Dennison’s Toronto facility. This person will also be responsible for ensuring the long-term success, profitability, and strategic alignment of the site. The Business Unit Leader acts as a primary decision-maker, coordinating across all functional areas—including operations, finance, commercial, and human resources—to meet and exceed organizational performance goals. Reporting to the Vice President and General Manager, Americas, this position is essentially the "CEO" of the site, translating regional and site-level strategy into daily execution.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Serve as a lead member of the Toronto Site Leadership Team, contributing to site strategy, performance, and culture.
Facilitate collaboration across commercial, Operations, Finance, and HR.
Present business updates and recommendations in leadership forums
Champion cross-functional alignment to ensure objectives are met, principally between Commercial and Operational
Strategy & Continuous Improvement
Owns the development and implementation of a site level strategy, working closely with leadership and cross-functional teams
Lead or sponsor site-level strategic projects impacting capacity, process improvement, or system implementation.
Identify opportunities to improve planning accuracy, operational efficiency, or cross-functional collaboration.
Act as a change agent to embed best practices across the site.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, aligned with business priorities and escalates when issues are foreseen.
Demand & Supply Integration
Collect, validate, and consolidate demand forecasts from Commercial and Marketing teams.
Translate Commercial forecasts into operationally feasible demand plans.
Reconcile demand with production schedules, supply chain capabilities, and inventory levels.
Maintain oversight of site capacity and operational constraints to ensure realistic planning.
Commercial Interface
Act as the primary interface with Commercial teams
Maintain consistent communication with key Commercial Leaders to align on priorities, pipeline, and customer commitments.
Provide visibility to Commercial Leaders on capacity constraints, risks, and mitigation options.
Leads key client visits and connects the various functions when the business is audited.
S&OP / Integrated Business Planning
Facilitate the S&OP / IBP cycle for the Toronto site, ensuring alignment across Commercial, Operations and Finance.
Drive consensus and resolve conflicts between commercial priorities and operational constraints.
Track and report on S&OP maturity, adherence, and results.
Provide actionable insights to the Site Leadership Team regarding demand-supply alignment, risks, and opportunities.
Reporting & Analytics
Maintain dashboards linking pipeline, demand forecast, capacity, and operational readiness.
Provide actionable insights on risks, opportunities, and emerging trends to leadership.
Track KPIs such as forecast accuracy, bottleneck prevention, capacity utilization, on-time delivery, and project performance.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
7+ years of experience in business management, commercial, operations, and/or supply chain
Proven experience in cross-functional leadership roles integrating Commercial and Operations across multiple business units.
Demonstrated success in peak production planning, capacity management, and bottleneck prevention.
Experience leading strategic, multi-business projects (systems, processes, capacity expansion).
Ability to partner with and influence senior Commercial Leaders.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in forecasting and demand planning tools
Familiarity with CRM and Commercial pipeline tools .
Advanced Excel / data modeling and analytics skills.
ERP/MRP systems knowledge and production planning familiarity.
Project management expertise (PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or Agile methodologies preferred).
Leadership & Soft Skills
Proactive, solution-oriented mindset; anticipates and mitigates operational and commercial risks.
Excellent communicator and facilitator across multiple business units.
Strong business acumen; understands revenue drivers, operational constraints, and trade-offs.

Conflict Resolution: Efficiently and effectively resolve complex employee, customer, or operational conflicts.
Additional Information
The salary range for this position is CAD $129,975 - $180,000 /year.
The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting.
