Hours of Work Up to 21 hours per week Department Transit Location This position is required to work in person at Transit Headquarters. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Position Overview This position is responsible for scheduling the Handivan (Accessible Transit Service) for people with disabilities. This service is available to registered customers who are unable to use a conventional bus. Responsibilities Accepts Handivan bookings over the telephone which includes taking reservations, canceling bookings and assisting with special requests. Schedules passenger pick-up times. Determines number of vehicles needed and prepares run schedules for each driver. Determines if taxi service is required and schedules pick-ups with taxi company. Schedules dispatch returns by analyzing pre-determined schedule for driver availability. Keeps in contact with drivers and responds to any changes required to ensure continuity of service Files and maintains records in accordance with Transit policy and procedure Produces statistics on usage as required. Provides reception duties for Burlington Transit. Additional duties as required Requirements Applicants must possess a High School Diploma, at least 1 year experience in an office environment and 2 years of dispatching experience. Effective communication, attention to detail and exceptional customer service skills are essential. Previous experience in Transit administration or customer service is considered an asset. Previous experience in Transit dispatch is considered an asset. Important note: It is expected that this position will work approximately 14-21 hours per week Monday to Friday. This position may be required to work Saturdays depending on the needs of the department.
