Summary
The Project Manager is accountable for the safe and timely delivery of Substation construction projects. They create an environment for construction execution excellence through the effective use of communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. The Project Manager encompasses the simultaneous management of several projects ranging anywhere in value from $10k to $3M. They are directly accountable for the financials of each of the projects they manage.
The Project Manager is constantly looking for opportunities to improve on the delivery and customer experience of construction projects. Through close collaboration with the Construction Manager, Quality Manager, HSSE Manager, Engineering Team, Fleet Manager and Field Supervisors, the Project Manager will ensure all client/owners' expectations are met or exceeded.
Qualifications
- College or University Degree in related field and/or Substation Construction Supervision or Journeyperson Experience
- P. Eng designation is preferred.
- PMI designation is considered an asset.
- 10+ years of Project Management experience.
- 5+ years of managing construction projects.
- 5+ years of Journeyperson experience in Substation Construction
- Extensive high voltage construction experience.
- Regulated Utility experience would be an asset.
Skills
- Progressive project management, change management, and planning skills.
- Detailed knowledge of substation construction sequencing and methods.
- Advanced project management specific financial acumen, specifically in forecasting, estimating, and accruals.
- Understanding of the procurement and purchasing process.
- Comfortable running EPC projects.
- Understanding of engineering design and development processes.
- Ability to resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
- Superior client and relationship management skills.
- Comfortable and proficient with computer software such as excel, MPP and word.
Duties
- Define and manage the scope and budget of the project in collaboration with senior management.
- Develop and manage a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources to the correct activities.
- Develop and manage a project financial forecast that meets or exceeds the proposal gross margin.
- Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion.
- Manage any health, safety or environmental incidents with the Client and Iconic team.
- In consultation with the Construction Manager, develop staffing plan for the project.
- Procure subcontractor services and material as per the approved proposal. Ensure PO’s and contracts are issued for all services and material.
- Ensure all contractual commitments are tracked and create/manages change orders as required.
- Monitor and approve all budgeted project expenditures.
- Monitor cash flow forecasts and report cash flow and variance to senior management regularly (monthly).
- Ensure all scope changes are captured, approved, and forecasted via Iconic change management process.
- Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for funders as outlined in funding agreements.
- Engages in conflict resolution and works with managers, staff, and clients to resolve issues.
- Leads or attends all project-relevant meetings such as project handoff, kick-offs, client, and reviews.
- Manage risk and other issues with Client PM
- Manage project escalations appropriately to ensure safe and timely resolution.
- Ensure projects is closed out in a timely manner.
- Ensuring every team member gets home safely.
- Ensuring all projects are profitable and meet or exceed proposal margins.
- Client management and relationship building.
