Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications, the Internal Communications Lead is responsible for setting and executing the internal communications strategy and internal communications program. This includes executive communications, presentations and events; all-employee and people-leader newsletters; the companywide intranet, including general governance and best practices; and supporting functional teams’ communication strategies when applicable. Through this program, the Internal Communications Lead will align clear, consistent messaging across all channels and measure reach, engagement, and sentiment to inform continuous improvement. This role will also own the companywide promotion e-store, and support the companywide charitable initiative, which hosts an annual, companywide challenge. As Internal Communications Lead, you will plan and deliver multi-channel campaigns tied to business milestones; write and edit high-impact content for executives, leaders and employees; curate town hall and broadcast experiences; partner across functions to communicate programs and change; triage urgent updates with sound judgment; and streamline processes to amplify what matters. This position is based in the Calgary office. What You Will Be Working On Build and maintain an internal communications strategy and editorial calendar aligned to Bird’s strategic plan and key priorities. Manage internal communications team members to successfully execute internal communications program, including ongoing mentorship and guidance. Own companywide employee newsletters end-to-end: plan themes, source and edit content, coordinate contributors, manage approvals, and report on engagement. Support executive team for companywide communications, including town halls, broadcasts, presentations, emails, and event and Q&A preparation, including speaking notes. Partner with People & Culture, Operations, Digital Services, Legal, Finance, and other teams to communicate initiatives, including internal campaigns such are program, compliance and/or process updates and changes. Manage intranet content governance and best practices. Establish feedback loops, track performance of communications, and share data-driven recommendations. Maintain brand voice and tone guidelines. Coordinate with internal or external partners as needed for design, video, translation, etc.. Triage urgent communications and manage approvals with discretion and sound judgment. Continuously identify opportunities to strengthen internal communications program. What We Are Looking For 7+ years of experience in internal/employee communications, corporate communications, or related roles. Undergraduate in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration or equivalent. Exceptional writing and editing skills; able to translate complex topics into clear, concise, and actionable messages. Proven project management ability: organize multiple workstreams, align stakeholders, and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment. Strong business partnering skills; comfortable collaborating with executive and senior leaders and cross-functional teams. Experience with executive communications and change management practices is considered an asset. Fluency with common comms tools (email platforms, intranet/CMS, presentation software, basic analytics dashboards). Sound judgment and discretion; able to handle sensitive topics and change communications. Detail-oriented with a commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and plain-language principles.
