Job Description
This position will conduct a wide variety of microscope and instrument-based mineralogical studies on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and other materials. This position may manage small projects and help to coordinate and supervise technologists and technicians of related projects under senior guidance.
• Contribute on mineralogical projects to optimize client satisfaction and project profitability.
• Plans, organizes and co-ordinates small scale laboratory projects.
• Supports in compiling and analyzing mineralogy data.
• Assists in the scheduling of mineralogy test work.
• Verifies and compiles data and prepares data reports.
• Aids in drafting and preparing portions of reports that are ultimately provided to clients.
• Responsible for quality and timely completion of technical mineralogical reports, and related invoicing.
• Ensures the proper use of all facilities, instruments and equipment used during a project.
• Develops proposals from direction provided by Senior Mineralogists or the Manager of the AMF.
• Constructively resolves work problems where they arise and recommends work measures to improve productivity and the quality of results.
• Possible travel to other SGS minerals laboratory locations in Canada or overseas on either short-term assignments or longer-term assignments as part of a strategic initiative.
• May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.
Qualifications
Education: A University degree in Mineralogy, Geology, Environmental Mineralogy, Soil Science or Earth Sciences is required.
Experience: 3 - 5 years of previous working experience (or equivalent) in a mineralogy related field.
Previous experience in TIMA-X, QEMSCAN, SEM-EDS, XRD or automated Mineralogy processing is a strong asset.
Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.).
Ability to complete projects independently or with minimal supervision.
Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
Ability to work well with others & independently.
Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
Additional Information
Salary: $69,400 to $85,000 per year.
