Career Exploration & Education creates curricular and co-curricular learning experiences at the intersection of career, equity, and wellbeing in partnership with student, recent graduate, tri campus, and employer communities. Taking an ecosystem approach, we work intentionally to design and deliver career learning experiences that ensure students and recent graduates have the opportunity to thrive in their careers. We are seeking an Assistant Director, Career Education with an educator skillset, a working knowledge of career development, experience with identity and hope-centered approaches to career learning, and a collaborative and compassionate approach to leadership. We invite applicants who identify as Indigenous, Black, racialized, 2SLGBTQ+, and as a person with disabilities. Reporting to the Director, Career Exploration & Education the Assistant Director, Career Education champions the strategy and delivery of services related to career education, career peer learning and support, and academic and career integration. The Assistant Director guides and leads the work of colleagues within the Career Education portfolio whose objective is to support student’s self-directed learning related to career exploration, career decision-making, employment and further education preparation. This portfolio assists students to reflect on and integrate their academic discipline, interests, abilities, experiences, and values in the development of their career aspirations in an ever-changing world. 
 
Along with the Director and other unit colleagues, the Assistant Director will ensure that Career Exploration & Education provides a wide variety of in-person and virtual educational, experiential, interactive and reflective opportunities that facilitates student learning and increases agency as they find meaning and purpose, as they define it, and develop career aptitude and skills for lifelong success and well-being. 
 
The successful candidate will be a creative and skilled systems thinker, prepared to build for the future of career education in an academic environment, preparing students and recent graduates for the complexities and realities of the labour market and world of work.  
 
Essential Qualifications:
 
(MINIMUM) EDUCATION:
A Master’s degree in education with a focus on adult learning, student affairs, or career development; or degree in counselling, human resource management, or a related discipline is required or any equivalent combination of graduate-level education and experience.
 
EXPERIENCE:
 
Minimum 5 years of experience developing, managing, and evaluating student/client-focused programs, resources, events and services ideally in an educational environment across diverse populations.
At least 3 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment, required. Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and execution.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, follow-through, management of multiple projects and attention to detail.
Proven experience developing, managing, and evaluating student/client-focused career programs, services, and resources, including extensive program planning, with a focus on effective resource allocation and sustainability.
Knowledge of the intersection of career, mental health, and identity and demonstrated experience with identity and hope-centered approaches to career learning.
Experience working with Indigenous and equity-deserving students, with a focus on intersectionality, and experience collaboratively developing programs, services, and resources to address their career needs from a strengths-based perspective.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills in the areas of collaboration, team participation, creative problem-solving, conflict resolution, group planning, and shared decision-making processes.Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with commitment to the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment.
Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity, diversity, inclusion access, and reconciliation.
Strong communication, networking, and relationship management skills. Ability to collaborate with campus and community partners, and external partners. Demonstrated investment in creating equity, equitable access, and inclusive engagement, including the ability to collaborate with Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) and disability-accessible student and campus partners.
Advanced technology skills in data management & analysis, assessment & evaluation and reporting.

Consultative skills to support partners on- and off-campus in the development and delivery of career and employment programming. Experience building and/or scaling up complex programs that required working with multiple constituent groups (e.g. students, faculty, administrators, other educational institutions, employers and community organizations, etc.).
Strong client relationship building skills, workshop development and group facilitation skills. Expertise in educational program design and project planning, management, and assessment and evaluation, with a focus on effective resource allocation and sustainability. Ability to design assessment and learning outcomes for all programs offered.
 
Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail, with a proactive solutions focus. Project management skills; ability to direct large-scale projects, e.g. re-development of a website or selection of computer systems to completion in a fast-paced high volume environment. Superior oral and written communications skills including sound presentation, public speaking, workshop development and facilitation skills. Research, analytical and reporting skills related to current industry trends and best practices.
 
Must be proficient with technology such as CRM management, social media, or other recruitment-related software and interested in identifying and adopting technological advances in the field. Well-developed computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheet applications and presentation software (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.).
 
OTHER:
 
Maintain expertise on current developments in higher education, industry and employment trends making recommendations based on best practices and research. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of student development and learning.
 
Ability to form strong advising, mentoring, and working relationships with students of diverse backgrounds.
 
A consummate professional, with demonstrated integrity, professional maturity, judgment, tact, diplomacy and conflict resolution skills. Must be flexible and adaptable with a high level of initiative and results orientation, and the ability to foster that expectation in others.
 
Must have demonstrated strengths motivating and leading staff, and working as a team player with the capacity to handle a challenging workload in a calm, professional and proactive manner.
 
Maintains a strong commitment to continuous professional learning and development.
