Commissionaires Great Lakes (CGL) is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1925 on a mandate that prioritizes providing meaningful employment for veterans and others committed to the well being of Canadians primarily in security guard and related services. Spanning Central and Southwestern Ontario, our services are customized to respond to the dynamic and evolving security needs of both private and public sector clients. These include uniformed guard, mobile response and support services, by-law enforcement and identification services.
We are currently seeking a Commissionaire to join our growing team. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

Security Guard – Summary of Duties
Under general supervision, the Security Guard is responsible for safeguarding property against theft, damage, and unauthorized access, while ensuring the safety of all individuals on the premises. This role includes conducting routine patrols to identify irregularities and inspecting security systems and fire prevention equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor and patrol assigned areas to prevent safety hazards, theft, violence, and policy violations.
Maintain a visible presence among visitors, staff, and patrons to uphold order and protect assets.
Inspect commercial properties for signs of intrusion and verify the security of access points including doors, windows, and gates.
Respond promptly to emergencies such as fires, chemical spills, medical incidents, and security threats.
Investigate alarms and disturbances, ensuring appropriate action is taken.
Deliver professional customer service in alignment with company standards.
Provide escort services for individuals on client property upon request.
Offer public assistance including lockout support and general information.
Report incidents and irregularities immediately to designated company and client personnel.
Answer incoming calls during non-business hours, providing information and taking messages as needed.
Document daily activities, including any equipment malfunctions, property damage, theft, or unauthorized access.
Monitor and authorize entry and exit of employees, visitors, and contractors to maintain site security.
Complete assigned tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Perform additional duties as directed by management.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply proper body mechanics during all physical tasks.
Maintain situational awareness and always remain vigilant.
Demonstrate clear thinking and sound judgment during high-pressure situations.
Exhibit empathy and professionalism when interacting with employees and addressing inquiries.
Foster teamwork and maintain effective communication with the security team.
Share relevant information that may impact operations or safety.
Show initiative in learning job responsibilities and advancing through the company’s level progression system.
Obtain Security Control certification within six months of hire, as per company policy.
WE ARE EXCITED FOR YOU TO OFFER US:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
Ontario Security Guard License (OSGL).
First Aid and CPR Certificate.
Minimum 6 months security experience.
Must be able to obtain Reliability Security Clearance – minimum 5 years Canadian residency
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to walk for 1 – 2 hours within every 4 hours.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Flexibility to work scheduled and unscheduled shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Potential exposure to high noise levels and varying weather conditions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications is required.
