Job Description: Reporting to the Dean, this position provides broad academic leadership to the diverse programs in the department. The Academic Chair ensures that educational programming meets the needs of students, industry partners and adheres to certification and accreditation standards. The Chair has familiarity with academic and administrative policies and the inter-relationships with College departments. With accountability for the planning, development, delivery, evaluation, and management of the department’s activities, the incumbent ensures the effective use of resources with a focus on financial sustainability. The Chair ensures that objectives of the programs offered by the Department are attained through effective supervision of teaching and learning processes. The Chair facilitates the on-going review of existing programs and the development of new programs to reflect market changes, and the employment needs of industry. The incumbent establishes positive working relationships with industry and business representatives and participates in the College’s student recruitment and job placement initiatives for graduates. Required Qualifications: A minimum of a Masters degree in Education, Health Administration or in a discipline related to the programs within the department; A minimum of nine (9) years of relevant work experience with increasingly responsible roles. This must include a minimum of two (2) years at a supervisory/management role; Demonstrated management style preferably within a unionized environment that nurtures individual initiative and creativity, within the context of organizational goals; Demonstrated understanding and commitment to student success, teaching excellence, quality education and applied research, preferably within an applied post-secondary environment; Demonstrated knowledge and experience in simulation and/or applied research; Strong communication and interpersonal skills that make you a consensus builder who can articulate an academic vision and execute on plans; Demonstrated planning, organization, time management and financial management skills.
