The Opportunity Founded in 1990, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) is one of Canada’s largest institutional investors, with C$269.6 billion in net assets as of June 31 2025. TVG is an investment department within OTTP focused on late stage venture and growth equity investments. TVG targets investment opportunities in companies leveraging technology to disrupt incumbents or create new sectors. TVG is responsible for achieving returns that are appropriate for earlier stage exposures; assisting in mitigating disruptions-related total-fund risk; and ensuring that Teachers' can access new frontiers of technology. As a ’start-up‘ within OTPP, TVG features a team of specialized investors who, operating from 4 offices: Toronto, San Francisco, London, and Mumbai pursue investments in the fast-changing world of technology. The TVG team prides itself on its relationship engagement, investment structuring creativity and cross-asset class partnership model. In just over 5 years, TVG has built a roughly C$10 billion portfolio of direct and fund investments. As a Principal within TVG, you will contribute to implementing the team's strategy and will collaborate with the team to meet the goals of this new department at Teachers’. Who you'll work with By joining TVG you will gain experience working alongside seasoned investors, with a wide range of investment backgrounds. This role will report into and work primarily with TVG North America, however there will be opportunities to support deal teams globally. You will support the senior leaders of TVG to: Develop and, over time, refine TVG’s go to market strategy and the building of capabilities that differentiate TVG’s capital offering Originate, execute and participate in post-investment asset management activities of relevant investment opportunities Scale the organization, playing a key role in recruiting and development of junior investment talent You will also work collaboratively across OTPP divisions to help drive enhanced sector and investment stage specialization and overall regional coordination. As a new department within Ontario Teachers', partnering with regional and asset class colleagues will be vital to success. What you'll do Play a senior role in the research, analysis and evaluation of a variety of investment opportunities Oversee the development of complex dynamic financial models to analyze the investment opportunities Develop analytics, driving meaningful insights and developing recommendations to TVG leadership Support TVG senior leadership in the negotiation and execution of agreements and other legal documents with external advisors Make investment recommendations based on the results of the team’s due diligence findings and analysis. Verify analysis and probe models and key assumptions Present investment memorandums to the relevant internal committees, as required Monitor ongoing performance of investments Manage day to day risks, escalating as appropriate Deliver on internal requirements required to support the portfolio, for example, semi-annual valuations, portfolio reports Contribute to other OTPP initiatives defined as critical by senior leaders within TVG including initiatives designed to share the insights of TVG with the broader Investment organization Be a strong team player and willing to develop other team members Build effective partnerships with key stakeholders globally including like-minded investors, entrepreneurs, VC and growth equity-focused banks and other service providers. Partner and communicate with the broader TVG team across all offices ensuring appropriate parties are kept informed and engaged on transactions or initiatives Verify information that is critical to TVG’s investing activities, maintaining an eye for detail but able to see the big picture Demonstrate the ability to consistently probe for truth supported by data Participate in critical diligence and research streams Build experience necessary to develop judgement across all aspects of investing: due diligence, time and resource allocation, opportunity assessment, etc. Supervise junior staff, some of whom may be on rotation with TVG and require unique oversight Develop junior staff providing timely and constructive feedback to improve performance Delegate for development, not just productivity Develop a strong and intuitive grasp of the strategic objectives that TVG uses to anchor its investment decision making Communicate effectively to gain senior leader buy-in for projects Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with other teams to ensure continued alignment with OTPP’s mission, vision and values. This includes supporting and sharing knowledge with other areas of Investments and responding to ad hoc requests from other departments What you'll need Bachelors degree in related field. Graduate, MBA or other degrees are an asset 5+ years of relevant industry experience (preferably in investment banking, principal investing or corporate development within an operating business) Experience across multiple sectors in both public and private companies is a strong asset Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth analysis Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, results and growth oriented Possess a global mindset-oriented approach to working on opportunities An ability to balance competing priorities, work independently with minimal direction, manage projects and thrive in a high performance team environment CFA designation an asset Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint Advanced data analysis skills Fluency with emerging AI application software Ability to travel frequently as required This ideal candidate will be exceptionally curious and driven and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
