Nature & Scope → Your Role at Roots
Working closely with the Senior Designer of Active and Cut and Sew Knits, the Designer, Menswear is responsible for designing and developing collections that embody the brand vision and seasonal direction set by the Product Leadership Team.
The Designer, Menswear position will focus on, but is not limited to, designing activewear, cut and sew knits and fleece.
Key Responsibilities → How You’ll Make an Impact
Partner with the Senior Designer to design and develop menswear collections that align with brand DNA and seasonal concepts, in Active, Cut and Sew Knits and Fleece commodities
Collaborate cross-functionally with graphics, marketing, production, and sourcing teams to bring collections to life.
Conduct in-depth research and market analysis on fabrics, graphics, colors, fits, trims, and emerging trends in the active, cut and sew knits, graphic fleece space.
Develop and present creative, innovative, and brand-relevant design concepts that meet aesthetic and quality standards.
Interpret and execute line plans with strong merchandising awareness to build cohesive and balanced assortments.
Create, publish, and maintain accurate line lists and style tech packs to ensure clear communication through all development stages.
Champion fit, construction, and functionality to deliver purpose-driven, high-quality product.
Participate in fit sessions and seasonal sample reviews, providing design insight and feedback.
Manage multiple seasons and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Stay informed and inspired by current fashion trends, industry shifts, and cultural influences.
Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and solution-oriented team culture.
Communicate effectively across departments — listening actively, engaging thoughtfully, and ensuring design intent is executed accurately.
Qualifications & Experience → The Skills You Bring
Diploma, BA hons Degree or above in Fashion Design.
2-4 years working experience within a Fashion / Garment Design role or related position.
Ability to collaborate and work cross-functionally
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator is essential. Adobe Indesign is an asset but not required.
CAD development skills for construction of garments and merchandised presentations.
Demonstrate knowledge of fabric, garment construction and fit.
Experienced in creating and maintaining specification packages
Excellent presentation skills of both design and final presentation.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
