As a System Controller Trainer, you’ll report to the Manager, Training and Compliance Delivery and play a vital role in shaping the next generation of system controllers who safeguard Alberta’s grid. Accountabilities include but are not limited to: Develop, maintain, and deliver a formal System Controller training program using the ADDIE model for instructional design. Ensure training meets reliability standards for: System Controllers in Training to achieve NERC Reliability Operator (RC) certification. Competency verification for AESO System Controller task lists. Ongoing NERC continuing education and Alberta Reliability Standard requirements. Design and integrate Human Performance Improvement tools into learning materials and job aids. Collaborate with subject matter experts and industry peers to support annual Alberta System Restoration and System Operator Training events. Deliver training programs online or in person for groups of 30–60 learners. Maintain AESO’s status as a NERC continuing education provider by managing course records and updating databases. Develop and maintain NERC Individual Learning Activity (ILA) documentation for Continuing Education (CE) hours. Conduct training needs and performance analysis, including cause coding activities. Support logistical requirements for training programs (facilities, catering, A/V). Assist the Manager, Training and Compliance Delivery with organizational initiatives. What you’ll bring to us: Certificate in Workplace or Adult Learning (or equivalent) from an accredited institution. Minimum 5 years’ experience in adult learning or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Experience with systematic approaches to performance improvement and training. Familiarity with online learning tools and platforms (Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate, Teams). Participation in human performance and train-the-trainer workshops (asset). NERC Certified Reliability Operator status and simulator-based training experience (asset). Minimum 5 years’ experience as a NERC Certified Operator in Alberta (asset).
