Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Manager, Fanshawe Gardens in the Faculty of Science, Trades, Technology & Design and in consultation and with input from program team, the greenhouse Technician provides technical assistance to horticultural programs, is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the College's grounds and greenhouse facilities, labs and operates full-scale crop production for a retail environment. Duties and Responsibilities: Program and Academic Assistance: Support hands-on student learning in greenhouse and garden labs by preparing materials, demonstrating equipment use, assisting with maintenance, and coordinating events and logistics. Ensure safety, supply readiness, and weekend upkeep as needed. Greenhouse, Grounds, and Nursery Operations: Support greenhouse and garden operations by guiding student employees, maintaining plant health and landscapes, managing inventory and sales, and ensuring safe, efficient use of equipment and resources. Lead seasonal crop production and contribute to retail and event activities. Qualifications: Post-secondary 2 year diploma in Horticulture/Landscape or equivalent Minimum 3 years’ horticulture/grounds/greenhouse environment experience An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Landscape Exterminator and/or Industrial Vegetation Exterminator, Greenhouse Pesticide Exterminator certification required Familiarity with greenhouse climate control programs/systems, ornamental plant identification, interior and exterior Working knowledge of landscape construction materials including stone, wood, fasteners and irrigation components Ability to operate and demonstrate operation of a variety of landscape equipment such as: radial arm saw, circular saw, jig saw, table saw, mitre saw, stone cutter and drill Mechanical aptitude and skills in repairing and maintaining equipment such as lawn mowers, garden tractors and tools Valid G driver's license and ability to travel between Fanshawe locations CLT, chainsaw, skidsteer certification preferred Demonstrated success in a team environment and proven ability to work independently Educational Credentials While transcripts are not required for the interview, they are mandatory as a condition of employment.
