What Your Day Will Look Like:
Imagine a day where your passion for ecology meets practical engineering challenges. You will focus on the environmental approvals process for a range of industries, including transportation, linear infrastructure, land development, mineral and aggregate resources and energy/power resources. You will also provide oversight of technical staff and information on projects and provide critical thinking and analysis across disciplines to provide effective management of ecological tasks and projects. Throughout the day, you’ll collaborate with other ecologists, engineers, planners, and regulatory specialists, ensuring that every project integrates sound ecological principles with innovative engineering solutions. Your work will directly impact sustainable development, balancing infrastructure needs with the protection of Canada’s natural landscapes.
What You'll Do:
Oversee project teams to conduct detailed ecological surveys and field assessments to evaluate project impacts on local ecosystems.
Develop and implement environmental monitoring programs in line with provincial and federal regulations or industry specific guidelines.
Analyze field data using GIS and other analytical tools to inform project planning and design.
Lead proposal and proposal preparation and review comprehensive technical reports, environmental impact assessments, and habitat restoration plans.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ecological considerations.
Liaise with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and foster positive community relationships.
Mentor and support junior staff, sharing expertise in ecological assessment and project management.
Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and environmental regulations to continually enhance project outcomes.
Build and maintain internal and external client relationships, and work with the senior leadership team to help drive the business plan.

What You'll Need:
Degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
10+ years (senior), 5+ years (intermediate) of progressive experience in ecological assessments, environmental impact studies, or habitat restoration, in consulting.
Knowledge of and experience with interpreting environmental policies and legislation and obtaining permits and approvals (e.g., Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, the Conservation Authorities Act, the Provincial Policy Statement, official plans, etc.).
Experience managing projects and clients, as well as experience in the collection and analysis of field data, data organization and management.
Strong working knowledge of standard field protocols for a range of ecological surveys and previous experience working in ecosystems within Ontario.
Strong analytical skills.
In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation and best practices for compliance.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in preparing technical reports and presentations.
Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously as well as all aspects of project development and delivery (i.e., proposal through to deliverables, including time and budget management).
Proven ability to mentor team members.
ELC Certification and OWES Certification would be considered an asset.
Valid Ontario driver’s licence is required.
