APPRENTICE PLUMBER AND MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time.
Position Start Date: November 24, 2025 (earlier and later start can be considered).
Compensation: Annual salary range of
$53,000 - $60,000. Starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience, and internal parity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on exceptional basis.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Apprentice Plumber & Maintenance Assistant adapts on a daily basis to the changing needs of the school by completing a wide range of labour assignments and tasks as required. These include handling materials and supplies, general clean-up, and assisting Maintenance Technicians with troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance throughout the school year. The primary purpose is to support the Maintenance Department by providing a wide range of labour, technical assistance, and general maintenance services, while actively pursuing certification as a Plumber.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Assist the Journeyperson Plumber with new installations, repairs, and alterations of plumbing systems and fixtures, including water supply, drainage, waste, and piping
Support industrial disciplines including, but not limited to, lighting, carpentry, drywall, painting, furniture assembly and repairs, floor covering, and equipment maintenance etc.
Perform regular maintenance, safety checks and repairs to related equipment and systems including but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical etc, and support a variety of maintenance troubleshooting assignments across the Shawnigan campus
Provide professional and efficient support for event setups and teardowns
Assembly and disassembly of office and residential furnishings and fixtures
Complete administrative duties, such as filling out forms and updating maintenance reports within the computerized maintenance management system
Perform snow removal and other seasonal landscaping responsibilities
Perform other duties as needed
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Must be a registered Plumber Apprentice with Skilled Trades BC or be eligible and committed to enrolling and registering immediately upon hire
Successful completion of a recognized Plumber Foundation Program (pre-apprenticeship) from a BC post-secondary institution, an asset
Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications related to plumbing and piping layout and proficient with basic drain cleaning equipment
Certifications in forklift, boom lift, scissor lift, fall arrest, and WHMIS preferred
Minimum valid class 5 BC driver's licence, with standard transmission experience preferred
Experience with hand tools, electric tools, hand carts, and furniture dollys
Basic mechanical and problem-solving skills, with some industrial work experience
A flexible mindset, with a willingness to take on new tasks and to learn new skills
Self-motivated and independent, with a proven ability to work without supervision
Able to work in variable climate conditions, indoors and outdoors, with and around various machinery.
