THE OPPORTUNITY:
Reporting to the Community Services Supervisor , the Food Bank Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of The Stop’s food bank and services. The successful candidate will also work in collaboration with a team of staff, volunteers and partners (e.g., Daily Bread, Second Harvest) and other group and individual food donors to ensure adequate food supply for the food bank and other services (i.e., Drop-in, Healthy Beginnings).
This position requires experience working in a challenging environment, handling a high volume of participants with multiple demands, and de-escalating conflict/crisis situations. It also involves directing and supporting the food bank volunteers who play a key role in delivering the services. The coordinator will ensure that service delivery is guided by The Stop’s policies and procedures (i.e., Anti-Discrimination/Anti-Harassment and Healthy Food Philosophy) and reflects the mission, vision and values of the organization.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily Operations
Weekly assessment and maintenance of inventories to ensure adequate supply of non-perishable, fresh and frozen foods, and other essential staples are available for service delivery (in collaboration with Community Chefs and other team members).
Weekly coordination and collaboration with program coordinators for deliveries from food service providers.
Determination of the type and quantity of food to be offered to service users (based on food availability and expiration, anticipated numbers, and nutritional value).
Provide direction and support for foodbank support worker, relief staff and food bank volunteers.
Coordination of the weekly Good Food Market & Café, in collaboration with Community Chefs and Good Food Market / Café Assistant.
Administration
Maintenance of The Stop’s digital membership registration portal, operated through Daily Bread’s Link2Feed food bank management software.
Track Food Bank expenditures and monitor spending against the allocated budget
Regular tracking and analysis through Link2feed of statistics and other data related to food bank usage.
Regular tracking and analysis through the program's internal food bank usage platform with accurate statistics and records.
Proficiency in data extrapolation and report writing.
Maintenance of the weekly Good Food Market & Café inventory/ordering in collaboration with Community Chef and Good Food Market / Café Assistant.
Programming the square P.O.S software for Good Food Market and Café.
Weekly updates and completion of accounting spreadsheets for the Good Food Market and Café.
Other administrative tasks pertaining to the food bank operation as needed.
Health & Safety
Ensuring the safety of the food bank and its services by maintaining cleanliness, food safety, and compliance with Toronto Public Health.
Overseeing a weekly health and safety inventory for the food bank’s physical space to ensure ongoing compliance.
Maintaining a daily, weekly and monthly cleaning and sanitization schedule of the foodbank.
Participation in Health and Safety trainings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
B.A or diploma within the social services or any other relevant field (e.g., nutrition, social work, settlement, community worker).
Commitment to and understanding of anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices.
Commitment to food security, social justice and knowledge of social services and community resources.
Must have current Food Handler’s certificate, CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) First Aid/ CPR.
Knowledge of food bank operations and willingness to learn.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneDrive.
Must have a minimum of 2 years frontline work experience in a community service environment.
Previous experience working with people who are homeless, dealing with addictions, poverty, or mental health challenges.
Excellent communication, time management, and organization skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, i.e. working with a diversity of people facing intersectional barriers, including Black, Indigenous, and other racialized communities, as well as people managing different abilities.
Ability to work in a fast paced, demanding environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
