Job Overview:
The Café Attendant is the sole employee of the café and will manage all aspects of operations, including beverage preparation, inventory, equipment maintenance, and volunteer coordination. The position also plays a key role in supporting and engaging with alumni and staff to foster community and connection through the café environment.
Job Functions and Duties:
Operational Management
- Oversee all daily café operations, including beverage preparation, opening and closing procedures, and cash handling.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation standards in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, and operated safely.
- Monitor stock levels, track inventory, and place supply orders as needed.
Customer Service & Community Engagement
- Provide friendly, professional service to clients, staff, and alumni in a respectful and supportive manner.
- Create a warm, recovery-oriented environment that promotes community and connection.
- Advocate for and assist with alumni activities supported through the café.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate sales, inventory, and operational records.
- Communicate regularly with facility leadership regarding supply needs, maintenance issues, and café performance.
- Contribute ideas for menu improvements, events, and initiatives that enhance the café’s role in the community.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Café Worker, Barista, or in a similar customer service role is an asset.
- Hands-on experience with professional coffee machines preferred.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Availability to work within operating hours, including weekends and/or holidays.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and motivate volunteers.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Demonstrated commitment to the recovery and mental health community.
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful demeanor toward staff, clients, and alumni.
- Strong decision-making, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Positive, team-oriented attitude and a customer service mindset.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs. (coffee supplies, boxes, etc.).
- Comfortable working in a busy, customer-facing environment within a healthcare facility.
- This position offers a meaningful opportunity to combine hospitality skills with community support in a recovery-focused environment. The Barista Manager serves as both a café operator and an ambassador for connection, compassion, and care within the facility.
