Summary Are you passionate about fostering meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities? GFL Environmental Services is seeking an Indigenous Advisor to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Senior Indigenous Advisor, you will lead engagement initiatives with Indigenous Communities and their Economic Development arms and be accountable for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in Western Canada. You will be part of our externally facing team focused on building and maintaining strong relationships with Indigenous communities while delivering on GFL Environmental Services business objectives. You will work collaboratively across different business units and all leadership levels within the company. Effective Indigenous participation and engagement is a key component of GFL Environmental Service's approach to Indigenous Engagement. This is a critical role in supporting our Indigenous Engagement strategies and initiatives and will travel to remote locations throughout Western Canada. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Lead and manage relationships with Indigenous groups, fostering economic development and social programs. Lead the implementation of Indigenous Participation Plans and contribute to the development and refinement of project execution plans in alignment with the Company’s Indigenous Policy and Strategy. Support the team and wider business by managing issues, resolving problems, and ensuring that priorities are met and escalations are handled quickly and effectively. Provide strategic support and guidance to the team and other internal groups to ensure the needs, interests, and priorities of Indigenous communities are understood and considered in GFL Environmental Services projects and operations. Represent the company in both Indigenous communities and public settings in a professional and skillful manner. Collaborate with team members and business units to prioritize and manage business objectives, opportunities, and risks. Ensure consistent, timely communication and engagement internally and externally while driving deliverables and team performance. Participate in negotiations and senior-level discussions with Indigenous communities. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Valid Driver’s License. Must be able to travel within Western Canada as required by the business. 3-5 years of experience in Indigenous Relations is preferred. Experience in the Environmental Services Industry is considered an asset. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Direct experience and in-depth knowledge of Indigenous Relations issues, concerns and approaches to create opportunities for mutual benefit Superior communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively present to a variety of audiences. High energy, a positive attitude, and the ability to work in a dynamic and diverse team environment. Flexible and able to adapt to a fluid travel schedule. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong respectful relationships with a variety of groups, from the grassroots to senior levels, both internally and externally. Ability to be a team player and work independently to achieve project-driven deliverables in a continuously evolving context.
