Job Title: Gauge Technician
Job Summary
Manage all gauge activities including calibration, maintenance and repair. Ensure gauges, certifications and calibration procedures adhere to customer and IATF standards.
Responsibility
Calibrate company and employee gauges, inspection equipment.
Maintain computerized system of gauge inventory, calibration dates, calibration history and gauge location, gauge R and R dates and history.
Clean, repair, and set up gauges for shop floor (micrometers, vernier, dial indicators, digital indicators), etc.
Arrange for the calibration and repair of all gauging and inspection equipment not maintained internally.
Order gauges and equipment as required. Work with Quality Engineers to develop Gauge Plan on new programs.
Assist in the training of employees in the proper use of gauges and inspection equipment.
Coordinate Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) including Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies and Attribute Gauge Studies.
Maintain inventory of archived/quarantined gauges no longer in current use.
Ensure compliance with Customer Specific Requirements.
Academic/Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent.
Must have Gauge Metrology or Calibration Technician Certificate.
Trained in GAGE Calibration software.
Blueprint reading and AIAG MSA training certificate.
AIAG core tools training certificate.
Required Skills/Experience
Two to four years of experience in Quality Assurance and manufacturing.
Proficient in GD&T and Blueprint Reading.
Understanding of all AIAG core tools.
Knowledge and experience with Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA – AIAG). Ability to perform GR&R and MSA studies and interpret the results.
Assess the severity of deviations of machined parts from specifications to determine whether they will pass inspection. Consider whether non-conforming measurements are critical or whether corrections can be made in subsequent machining steps.
Discuss work plans and coordinate tasks with other technicians to complete large orders. Discuss scheduling and workloads to ensure jobs meet timelines recorded on work orders. Clarify work instructions with supervisors or other staff when scale drawings or work orders are unclear or incomplete.
Ability to work independently and with others. Work independently to interpret, plan, calibrate or repair gauges. Work with other technicians to carry out new or complex tasks or to solve problems.
Ability to troubleshoot broken gauges, assess risks and repair gauges
Recommend the ability to operate Zeiss CMM Contrua for calibrating masters in house. Use databases to access documents. Use computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining software.
Understands gauge design concepts and uses computer-assisted design, manufacturing and machining software to design gauges.
Able to create gauge use instructions, develop and provide gauge training to employees
Continuously keep up to date with new technologies, products and trends within the machining industry. Learn from daily work activities and from discussions with co-workers and supervisors. Participate in training available in the workplace and offered by suppliers and community colleges.
