Intern, Engineering (Basic Capital)
This is a full-time summer internship lasting from May 11, 2026, until August 28, 2026.
Job Summary
The Intern, Engineering (Basic Capital) is responsible for supporting the Assistant Project Officers within the Engineering and Capital Planning teams. The role provides the leadership team with valuable financial insights and operational analytics, contributing to informed decision making. The incumbent has the opportunity to develop business acumen and gain experience in project management and auditing, working closely with the Engineering team to advance CN’s strategic priorities. Positioned within the Basic Capital team, the role plays a key part in supporting Operations strategy, focusing on safety, operational efficiency and sustainable growth.
Major Responsibilities
Participate in the budgeting and planning process aligned with business needs communicating effectively with each budget owner
Collaborate with Project Officers and Assistant Project Officers to automate financial management processes and tools providing timely and relevant information to stakeholders, facilitating decision making and driving business performance
Assist in managing financial impact of projects including the preparation of project estimates, monitoring the project scope, timeline, budget, benefits, and explaining the variances
Participate in process improvement and optimization initiatives to deliver cost savings and efficiency gains

Working towards or having completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or Accounting
