About the Team
The Guest Platform team, within the Hospitality line of business, is the backbone of our CRM system. We build and operate the scalable, reliable backend systems for the guest-centric workflows in our restaurant product. Our mission is to empower restaurants with analytics and insights about their guests, enabling them to make smarter decisions and provide an elevated hospitality experience.
We’re looking for an engineering manager to oversee our Guest Data Platform team. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the team's technical vision, strategy, execution, and the growth of our talented senior and principal product engineers and bridge the gap between product engineering and data engineering.
You will partner closely with leaders in Product, Design, Data Engineering, Data Science, and other engineering groups to translate complex business needs into a scalable and forward-looking data architecture. This is a high-impact role where you will define the future of analytical products in the Hospitality LOB at OpenTable, driving technical strategy and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Our data platform is built on a modern, cloud-native stack. While experience with our exact tools isn't required, a strong background in similar technologies is essential. Our ecosystem includes technologies for data ingestion (CDC and Kafka), processing (Spark), storage (Databricks/S3), and orchestration (Airflow). Data engineering systems primarily use Python and SQL, and our product-facing backend applications are built on Java/Spring that run on an on-prem Kubernetes cluster. We use MongoDB, and ElasticSearch as our primary operational data store.
You’ll be responsible for:
Managing the outcomes and quality of the engineering team consisting of full-stack engineers
Continuously improving our processes using your experience and expertise
Providing development updates to stakeholders within and outside of the team
Growing engineers through feedback, mentoring and coaching
Hiring new engineers as needed, and helping other teams with their hiring goals
Building a scalable analytical architecture that’ll power our CDP and CRM offerings
You’ll fit right in if:
You have a strong software engineering background with backend applications
3+ years of hands-on experience leading the development of scalable backend applications, including 1+ years of building analytical, data-intensive applications
You have proven experience in mentoring engineers and leading technical projects, and you are looking to grow as a people manager
You have an empathetic mindset and enjoy working with developers, designers and product owners of all career levels
You are growth-oriented, driven and obsessed with continuous improvement
You bring a strong sense of ownership and accountability to your work
You’re comfortable architecting systems end to end, and managing full-stack teams
You have driven successful projects from technical planning all the way to production
You are proficient in communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike, and see communication as the cornerstone of building sustainable teams
You enjoy growing other engineers in their career journey
