Overview of the Role As a member of the Shift Engineers team, the Shift Engineer is responsible for the continuous economical operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Refrigeration and Steam Plant and associated utilities. Schedule: 4 x 12-hour day shift 07:00 am - 7:00 pm; 4 days off; 4 x 12-hour night shift 7:00 pm - 07:00 am; 4 days off. How you will make contributions that matter: Operation, maintenance and monitoring of all boilers, steam engines and all mechanical and electrical equipment in the boiler and engine rooms and other areas as required. Operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system and compressed air systems. Handling of emergencies, i.e. Ammonia leaks, power failures, Fire Protection Systems etc. Ensure work is performed safely in accordance with H&S, Food Safety, Technical Safety Authority, WSBC regulations and Company’s Policies Procedures. Performance of other duties as required. Monitor and repair plant equipment. Monitor and troubleshoot plant wastewater system. Complete shift logs and monitor chemical usage. Ensure the correct usage of equipment and processes to reduce utility wastage and to assist in the elimination of plant effluent violations. Maintain and complete all duties and tests required for HACCP. Team player capable of covering for other shifts as required. You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications: 4th Class Alberta Power Engineering Certificate Minimum of 3-5 years of Industrial ammonia experience. Mechanical and Technical Aptitude. Ability to maintain accurate written records and documentation. Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. Able to work in confined spaces; some heavy lifting as required. Must be able to operate equipment in a satisfactory manner within the specified training period. The specified training period shall be a mutual agreement between the successful applicant and management prior to accepting the position. Previous experience maintaining/operating dairy plant production equipment. An ability to learn and perform all duties as required. Ability to work without direct supervision. Flexibility to work shiftwork including weekends. Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and Management. Acceptable attendance record (within the overall plant average).
