Job Description
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, in close collaboration with the Diagnostic Imaging Modality Supervisor, the Diagnostic Imaging Technical Specialist, provides on-site technical expertise.
Accountabilities:
Demonstrates expert technical skills and abilities in the performance of medical imaging procedures as outlined in the procedure manuals within a designated area and in accordance with the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act, its regulations and the As Low As Reasonably Achievable Principle
Operates, troubleshoots and ensures medical imaging and ancillary equipment is performing in an effective and efficient manner
Utilizes expert technical knowledge in the performance of quality assurance responsibilities
Provides technical, procedural and theoretical guidance/direction to staff within designated area(s) to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the department
Ensures quality assurance is completed and maintained on images and analysis, including collaborating with modality supervisor to perform quality analysis, developing and implementing action plans for areas of concern
Ensures the maintenance and completion of repeat/reject analysis as required by the Ministry of Health standards including: collaborating with modality supervisor to analyze repeat/reject rates, developing and implementing action plans for areas of concern
Monitors work flow; ensures equitable distribution of workload
Recommends and participates in the implementation of new methods and improvements to the flow of work
Collaborates in the establishment of priorities to achieve the expected turn-a-round times for tests
Collaborates with modality supervisor to facilitate the provision of teaching, educational, safety and quality improvement programs/activities in area of expertise
Prepares written and electronic reports required to document all procedures and test results
Performs electronic and written documentation for the complete traceability of medical images, in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures
Produces high quality imaging and maintains precise records to facilitate the provision of statistical data for publications, case studies, and administrative purposes; ensures the accuracy, legibility and completeness of results submitted for reporting
Documents and communicates critical values immediately to the appropriate personnel
Performs other related patient care responsibilities to facilitate the provision of optimal patient care
Liaises with patients; explains and ensures informed consent (verbal/written) is obtained for procedures, when necessary
Liaises with appropriate personnel to verify pertinent patient data (i.e. lab results), examination orders and/or concerns prior to performing procedures
Coordinates scheduling of patient transportation, procedures/tests, etc. to maintain efficient workflow in designated area
Adheres to hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality
Performs cross-functional responsibilities as assigned or requested
Performs other duties related to the job classification as required
Qualifications
Completion of a recognized program in area of responsibility i.e. radiography/medical radiation technology
Completion of recognized postgraduate courses in assigned area preferred
Four years recent experience in area of expertise required
Thorough knowledge of the theory and practice of medical imaging procedures, instruments, equipment and special techniques (on-the-job experience) in assigned area required
Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario required
Membership with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists preferred
Demonstrated effective leadership skills

Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment and work accurately under stressful conditions

Hours: Currently Days (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
SALARY:
Minimum: $44.66 per hour
Maximum: $56.30 per hour
