Job Description
This position supports a major hydroelectric project in New Brunswick and requires two weeks per month at the project office in Fredericton, NB. Travel and lodging expenses will be covered.
The Senior Project Planner is responsible for leading the planning and scheduling function across complex, multi-discipline industrial projects. This role develops, manages, and analyzes project schedules from feasibility through execution, ensuring alignment with project objectives, contractual obligations, and client requirements. The Senior Planner provides advanced project controls support including earned value management, progress measurement, trend analysis, and reporting to enable effective decision-making and proactive project management.
The ideal candidate brings over 15 years of experience in planning & scheduling within EPC/EPCM environments across mining, oil & gas, energy, and infrastructure sectors. They possess deep expertise in Primavera P6, schedule integration, construction sequencing, and progress control, with a strong ability to coordinate across engineering, procurement, construction, contractors, and client teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning & Scheduling Leadership
Develop and maintain fully integrated Level 1–3 project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
Establish Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), coding structures, activity sequencing, and resource loading in accordance with project requirements.
Lead the creation of baseline schedules and manage schedule change control processes throughout the project lifecycle.
Conduct critical path analysis, float assessments, and scenario modelling to support project decision-making.
- Progress Measurement & Reporting
Implement progress measurement systems, progress curves (S-curves), dashboards, and weekly/monthly reporting frameworks.
Analyze planned vs actual performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Prepare and issue routine planning deliverables including progress reports, look-ahead schedules, manpower histograms, productivity analysis, and schedule forecasts.
- Earned Value & Performance Analysis
Perform Earned Value Management (EVM) analysis and provide insights on cost/schedule performance indicators (SPI, CPI, etc.).
Coordinate with cost control teams to align schedule progress with budget and cost forecasts.
Support trend management, change management, and impact analysis related to variations and scope changes.
- Multi-Discipline Coordination
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and subcontractors to ensure accurate representation of project activities.
Review and validate contractors’ schedules, performance reports, and progress updates to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Facilitate planning meetings, schedule risk reviews, and coordination sessions with internal teams and clients.
- Project Controls Systems & Procedures
Develop and implement project controls procedures, planning guidelines, progress measurement methodologies, and schedule management standards.
Support the automation of planning and reporting processes using advanced Excel tools, dashboards, and project controls systems.
Ensure adherence to corporate and client project controls frameworks, safety standards, and quality requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
8 years of planning & scheduling experience in EPC/EPCM projects within energy, and infrastructure.
Proven experience as Lead Planner / Senior Planner on large-scale, multi-discipline capital projects (including energy, substations, infrastructure, heavy civil works).
Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 (Project Manager) and Microsoft Project.
Strong background in EVM, schedule forecasting, change management, and project controls methodologies.
Hands-on experience in baseline development, contractor oversight, schedule integration, and interface coordination across multiple contracts.
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (dashboards, automation, macros, reports).
Exceptional communication, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
Willing and able to travel and spend 2 weeks a month at our Fredericton office.
Preferred Qualifications:
15+ years of planning & scheduling experience in EPC/EPCM projects within energy, and infrastructure.
Strong leadership and stakeholder coordination
Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities
High attention to detail and schedule accuracy
Ability to work under pressure and in fast-paced, multi-contract environments
Strong communication, reporting, and presentation skills
Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Bilingual French/English
